BOD: Boyfriend of the Day April 3, 2008

3-0. The Kansas City Royals...our Kansas City Royals, are the only undefeated team in all of Major League Baseball. We're better than everyone. Even if it's only for a short 16-ish hour period, I'm okay with that. I like that. And I do realize that we're only 3 games into the season and have 159 left to go, but I started really following the Royals during the 2005 season. I did not experience 2003, I wasn't alive to experience the mid-80s. In my child-like innocence, I am hopeful and want to believe that this team--chock full of young talent and decent arms--has a chance to improve, to gain respect across the country, and dare I say make a run at the playoffs? Who knows. Baseball is a beautiful, poetic sport. Those who are small in stature can excel to achieve greatness, and the underdog can beat out the "unquestionable winner."

Star-divide

Boyfriend of the Day

Zack Greinke!

Zack went for 7 innings and only allowed 1 run. Though it wasn't his "best stuff," Greinke still made sure that the job got done. He was obviously the "best stuff" for the BOD today!

Smitten Kitten

Mark Teahen!

Mark was 2 for 4 today with one of those being a solo shot in the 6th inning.

Alex Gordon!

For a while, I considered putting either Gordo or Teahen in the HM spot but...they both did good for the game today. I can't discriminate. Gordon went 2 for 4 with a 2 run homer in the 4th.

BOYFRIEND OF THE DAY 2008
Player BOD SK HM
Brian Bannister 1 0 0
Billy Butler 0 1 0
Alex Gordon 0 2 0
Zack Greinke 1 0 0
Mark Grudzielanek 1 0 1
Tony Peña Jr. 0 1 0
Mark Teahen 0 1 0

MOST VALUABLE OPPONENT 2008
Player MVO
Denny Bautista 1
Motown Muderers 1

To wrap this all up, I've got...a few thoughts. My first is that I have not been able to sit down and fully enjoy a baseball game yet this season; is this the reason the Royals have been doing so well?
My second thought was voiced to my dad but it's quite negative and I was ashamed of it as soon as I typed it out.
So that leads to my third thought. thedude925/Wildthang...I have Royals fleece. My mom brought it to work today and I picked it up during an observation period. So...if I get some time sometime soon, it may or may not be worked on :]. And finally, my cheering rights for the NCAA tournament is officially open to any non-Kansas team. Sway me.

As always...cheer, jeer, discuss.

...it's early

*we here at BOD try to go for the highest quality images. Is it apparent that I've been up for maybe a max of 20 minutes?

WOOOOOO

The blanket finally nears its destiny! I can feel the warmth and fuzz now!

And you have permission to root for UCLA in all its basketball glory in the final four.

We run a clean program that isn't Kansas, or being coached by a former Kansas coach.

Kevin Love is the best ever!!

Accidentally not thedude925 anymore. I do hate this new name.

Well...

I'm trying really hard to miss the 1-year-since-it-was-requested mark. That would be all together embarrassing, you know.

From what I can see...

Agor did a fine job of keeping the blood off the uni.

Let's Go Blues!

why not Kansas?

If you listen to the experts, they talk all about Carolina, Memphis, and UCLA and usually throw in Kansas as a last thought. Kind of reminds me of the experts comments about the American League Central, with barely a mention of the UNDEFEATED KANSAS CITY ROYALS. I think it is a natural thing for us to root for this sorely understood Kansas Jayhawk team.

WHY Kansas?!

Mizzou Tiger, born and bred. I'm sorry, I draw my lines somewhere. ;)

Douglas County Community College

can go rot. I'm rooting for UNC, just 'cause I know Roy winning another title will cause pain in Lawrence.

Although probably not as much pain as I'm going to feel when Beasley declares.

Another K-State fan :)

Cool. That's some intense anti-KU sentiment.

Beasley is gone. I think we all knew he was one and done when he signed his letter of intent. But I can't imagine Walker will try to go to the NBA. He's not particularly close to being ready. I don't know if any NBA team would sign him, unless we're talking about the D-league. And is Walker stupid enough to do that? He could play another season or two in college and then get drafted and get a big contract, or waste away in the D-league.

I probably disagree with you.

not sure on Walker

I would bet there is some agent who will try to convince him to leave early based on his tourney perormance. He could use another year or two, but he's mentioned how poor his family is and how he will be taking care of them, so if he sees even minimal NBA dollars now...

Beasley's gone. You don't turn down $30M or more to stay in college with only the possibility of going down in the draft.

Class of '88.

I'm 99.999% sure Beasley's gone myself. The only grain of hope is that he has said himself that he really likes it there, and isn't sure himself if he's ready.

You're right that Walker SHOULD stay,

and he'd be better off doing so if he can afford (financially) to wait, but a number of NBA teams would gladly sign him.

Royals, NBA, Golden Hurricane, Hawkeyes, Chiefs, and KU basketball, in that order.

A am a big KSU basketball fan...

but think that Walker is dumb enough to try to make the jump. His antics throughout this season were enough to make me sick personally.

I've heard plenty of pontificators

say that KU is the best, most well-rounded team. The only discount I've heard for them is that UCLA and Memphis are "hotter" right now.

I'm a K-Stater and have rooted for KU to this point, but I'm finding it harder and harder the more I listen to people from KU talk about their team.

3-0

I haven't watched a game yet either, only followed the game threads while at work. I was planning on watching tonights game, hope that doesn't change anything. (fingers crossed)

Oh, and way to show your support to Mizzou. Anybody but KU and UNC is fine, so basically Memphis or UCLA. That's where my love will go, whoever wins that game.

Let me tell you why I like Memphis, Loyal2

They are the Tigers (you gotta like that), I don't think they've ever won a title, and The King says, "Yeah momma, Memphis is where it's at. I'll be watching from Graceland." That was enough for me. By the way, good calls for the BOD and SK awards today. You're going to get awful tired of having to do these more often this year.

by royaldaddy on Apr 4, 2008 11:52 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think the only reason that I'm so tired of it currently

is that I've got a lot of school work and other responsibilities on my plate currently, and I haven't actually seen anything that's happened in the games that I've tried to write about. Usually I keep score (old school style) and then make notes on defensive plays that I liked at the bottom of my scorecard. Hard to do when you're knee deep in math homework and other obligations, you know?

No doubt

I hate math and homework in general. I know what you're going through. I took this semester off to get stuff cleaned up around my house after the ice storms of last year, but I'll be back to school in the fall and I'll be in the same boat. Hang in there because it will all pay off in the end.

On my way to San Antonio..

Literally as I write this... Must say I wouldn't dream of a Misery fan on the Jayhawk bandwagon so I won't even bother trying to make the case.. Hope you all enjoy figuring out which team you will be rooting for.. Sounds like a good time.. Rock Chalk Jayhawk..
