BOD: Boyfriend of the Day, April 8, 2008

HAPPY HOME OPENER!

Welcome to another BOD post. I have pictures of hotties (as per request of NYRoyal ;D) and some bonus coverage of the home opener festivities: I was seated in section 116, row W, seat 5. In other words, I was directly behind the Royals dugout, in the lowest level in the second to last row. That is probably the closest I have ever gotten to the field, barring the Baseball 101 clinic I participated in in 2005 (we had lunch in the crown club restaurant thing and then saw the indoor batting area and played catch out on the field). So, let's get to our BODs for the day!

Star-divide

Boyfriend of the Day

Joey Gathright!

Oh Joey, you lookin' fine in that outtake photo from the Players Calendar, proceeds from which go to the Ali Kemp Foundation that educates women on self defense. You can buy these calendars all home stand and I highly encourage you to buy it for that special lady in your life--not only does it show all our classy boys in blue, but also goes to a wonderful, highly needed cause.
Okay. Back to Gathright. He went 2 for 4 with 3 stolen bases and ended up crossing home twice during the duration of the game. I don't really need to say more than that. Except for maybe mentioning that he can jump over a car? And that I directed someone to the wonderful jumping-over-a-pitcher video (which was proceeded by a crack that anyone can jump over a pitcher...of beer T_T).

Smitten Kitten

Ross Gload!

I definitely changed this at the last minute because...my score card was very very deceiving. Gload went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a steal...even though he was stolen shortly after. He also managed to take a walk, so I'm happy with what he did. He deserves a little credit, even if the above photo is a bit cheesy.

Honorable Mention

Leo Nuñez!

Overall, a lot of the short relief players don't really get much recognition. But Nuñez is off to a great start and I'm really glad with how he went today; 2 strikeouts in one inning is great in my book, especially against the NY murder's row.

Most Valuable Opponent

Alex Rodriguez!

0-4. 4 strike outs. I hope you speak spanish, because I'm too lazy to translate. And...according to 610 sports, A-Rod is a chump. The fact that he gets paid more than entire team is utterly ridiculous.

Excellent choices and great pics

Does anyone have any idea why Gload tried to steal third today?

I probably disagree with you.

by Scott McKinney on Apr 8, 2008 10:58 PM EDT reply actions

No.

The hit and run is used to avoid the devastating GDP. I think of it as a higher risk/reward sac bunt. Similarly, no one will hit and run with 2 outs.

Yeah, I don't think Hillman thinks THAT far out of the box

Unfortunately, he does think out of the box far enough to give Gload the green light to attempt to steal third off of a catcher other than Posada. But I'll give Hillman credit for making running decisions which have, on balance, been pretty smart. There have been some clunkers however.

I probably disagree with you.

Forgive me my transgression

but that first picture of the video board? All I can think of is how... big... Mark looks up there. It's like... he's... AIEEEE GRUDZIRRA!

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

Scoreboard???

Im a little in the dark here, I just learned they were updating the scoreboard today . . . Question: are they going to put the crown back up, or is this a permanant thing?

Great Pictures

Crown wont be up until this offseason I think.

The board is huge. I seen the one in Austin and it was the biggest in the world for about a month and your picture makes it look small. It actually looks like it might tip over off the little green pedestal its on.

it's like...100 ft tall

and people were making jokes about how the sun wasn't shining but that thing was bright enough to make it look like it was anyways xD

The screen was ridiculous good

I actually started laughing when the guy next to me was watching the videoboard instead of the actual game. HA!

Are we sure it's not until next year

The pieces of the crown were sitting on the hill behind the scoreboard. It looks like they could be placed on top over a roadtrip. I'm hoping it goes up this year.

almost everyone i've talked to has said that they will be placed

in time for the opening day ceremony next year.

I read that they are going to put some pieces of the old crown in the Royals Hall of Fame. Shoudl be done next year.

If you'd like to dream a little...

You know what that giant HD screen would be really good for? When the Royals are in the playoffs, for away games, they could broadcast the games in the stadium. Maybe this would only be appropriate for something as big as the World Series. It would be a nice way to watch the game with thousands of other Royals fans.

I probably disagree with you.
