Rowdy finally shows his stuff.

Starting Pitcher Rowdy Hardy (1-3) picked up his first win of the season. Hardy threw five innings striking out two batters. He gave up three earned runs off of nine hits. Jarod Palmer recorded his third save of the season for the naturals.

Naturals 7 and Tulsa 3....

Not a great outing by Rowdy but a win is a win.  The way his season is going I bet he is breathing a big sigh of relief.   Go Naturals...

Hopefully Rowdy is turning a corner

His last five starts have been somewhat better than his first three, but he’s still got to figure out how to be less hittable.

I probably disagree with you.

i love rowdy

but 9 hits in 5 innings is pretty terrible. at least he got himself out of jams, though. hopefully this little bit of success is enough to turn his season around.

What about the Moose

Like Hardy but he will never become a ML pitcher other than a situational lefty. The moose had two more hits last night. Hittin .366 over his last 10 with a .683 SLG pulled his average up to .240 after a .190 April BA. Probably another month at this clip and he’ll get called up to AA.

sign Greinke a Evan Longoria type deal now.

Rushing a big-time prospect is almost always a mistake

The Royals will, and really probably should, let Moose Tacos stay in A ball for at least 2-3 more months, minimum, and then a mid-to-late season call-up might be in order if he keeps hitting the tar off the ball.

And even if he were to get called up before the year is over

it would almost certainly be to Wilmington, not to Arkansas.

+1

I’d bet my salary that Moose doesn’t make it to AA this year, no matter how he hits from this point forward. I’m hoping that he starts next season in Wilmington and does so well that he makes it to NWA sometime during next season.

I probably disagree with you.

With Moustakas' age and not having a solid position in the field

He won’t get to AA this year – no chance. I’d be surprised if he got to Wilmington. My prediction for a career path

2009- Wilmington
2010 – NWA and midseason callup to Omaha
2011 – Chance to be a regular in KC at RF or 2B

Im encouraged

by the number of pitching prospects that are doing well right now. Davies, Rosa, Cortes, Cegarra (42-3 k/bb ratio), Blake Wood, Duffy, Pimental, Anthony Bradley. That is alot of young arms to develop or trade for bats later.

KC is developing the younger arms which is really good to see

You didn’t even mention Matt Mitchell who is in Burlington in first full year out of HS, Sam Runion -2007 2nd round pick or Brent Fisher #19 overall prospect in Royals system according to BA This is the reason I’d like to see KC go for a bat with the #3 overall pick in this year’s draft whether it is Alvarez, Smoak or Tim Beckham. I don’t see Posey or Gordon Beckham being #3 overall stuff. The bats at the top of draft will be solid. Pitchers farther down can be developed. KC’s system is almost void of position players who look like big league regulars.

Right now, KC could use its #1 on a position player and still get 2 top 50 HS or college arms with their supplemental #1 (thank you David Riske) and 2nd round pick. That doesn’t even account for later rounds where organizations can find sleepers like Mitchell or overpay for a tough to sign HS pitcher like Keaton Hayenga, a 31st round pick from WA who was considered a top prospect in the state before getting hurt in spring of 2007. Signed him for $300K to get him away from college. KC can pick up a couple of those types each year if they will spend the money. Also have to consider the Dominican and other Latin players that will supplement the system. Cegarra was signed as a FA – not through the draft and he has been lights out in 2008.

Let’s hope KC is done with the foolishness of positional need or quick fix college types who top out in AA – AAAA.
