Twinkie Town Interview with Twins Asst. GM

Remember all those big interviews I've pulled on RR?

This is a good read...

Really interesting read

Its interesting to know what these guys do all day.

RA: We had discussions with it, and to be honest with you they just wanted to get the possibility of arbitration out of the way and agree on something. Then you continue discussing a long-term deal. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t. In this case I believe that we were in the same ballpark for what we were looking at for a multi-year deal. And just to get it out of the way, before exchanging numbers, as well as some things that were on the horizon for some other clubs; we believed it was in our best interest to get something secured, and to continue to try and get the multi-year deal done as soon as possible. Just because of some of the things that were floating around in the industry that really could have blown it up a little bit.

Wonder what the heck he means by that?

Very revealing

I can’t believe the Twins keep fielding competitive teams with the mindset regarding hitting this guys displays. He says “we want guys to swing at good pitches” but seem to have no clue that patience and waiting for the good pitch, that is, not just thinking “I’m 22! I’m aggressive!” are what leads to good pitches. He doesn’ t see that walks aren’t a goal in themselves, but display selectivity—that is, the hitter realized there weren’t any good pitches for him to hit.

Good luck getting the most out of Delmon, Twins fans.

Hope is not a strategy. And neither is playing Tony Pena every day. (Rany Jazayerli)

Have they been a good hitting team?

I always thought they were successful on the strength of their pitching, and offense was their Achilles Heel. Probably because they’re not aggressive enough, right?
