I noticed the horse race of submediocre corner outfielders had a lead change yesterday.
Emil Brown - 260/288/398 = 686
Jose Guillen - 235/266/418 = 683
By my crazy gorilla math we have paid $2,271,605 more for Guillen than we would have Emil Brown (I estimated his hypothetical salary at $4 million) at this point in the season. As an aside, did anyone know that according to the best and worst UZR defensive ratings Guillen was the worst Right Fielder in the AL last year allowing 21 more runs than your average right fielder. WoW!
Let's hope Guillen is now in shape and the weather is warm enough for him to be comfortable enough to start producing and make us look back and laugh at this post in a few months.
Full Disclosure - I in no way wanted Emil Brown back this year and although not wild about Jose Guillen, he appeared to be the best bat that would actually play for us. Having said that, I know this topic has been debated before and after these decisions were made so I think it warrants monitoring.
