Game 47 Open Thread - Royals (21-25) at Red Sox (30-19)

Kansas City Royals @ Boston Red Sox

Fortunately, it's a daytime start for Brian Bannister (4.29 ERA). Unfortunately, he has to face the Red Sox.

Yay Game Thread!

Feel free to delete my feeble attempt at a game thread.

I actually like our lineup today, considering Billy Boy’s troubles and all.

Holy crap!

On an another note, I am saddened at Guillen being selfish once again and hogging that RBI all to himself.

Not to bag on any player in particular

but one problem I see with our “offense” is some HUGE platoon splits (yes, I know, sample caveats aside).

Take a look at Gordon and Teahen vs lefties, then

take a look at Butler and Gullen vs righties, then

you will know why we have virtually no comebacks in the late innings. If the opposition has any kind of bullpen, and their manager is not imitating Bernie in “Weekend at Bernie’s”, then it’s “game over” for the Royals if they aren’t at least tied after 5 innings, IMHO.

Sad part of what I just typed: Those constitute the everyday 3-4-5-6 hitters in our lineup!

Hillman

needs to be more careful with pitch counts.

Honestly, with the way Banny labored thru 5 innings, and the bullpen in fairly good shape, and considering we would need only 3 innings from them today, since we are going to lose, why would you send him out there in the 6th? What’s the point? Makes no sense from a cost/benefit standpoint.

That proves my point

The bullpen should REMAIN rested for tomorrow now – it should be Yabuta time for the last 2 innings.

Leaves Banny in 1 inning too long, that saves the bullpen exactly 1 out, then goes to pen, and with Manny, Lowell, and Youkalis the next 3, with the team sorta still in the game, you can’t go to a righty there? Has Hillman seen Gobbles splits????

What makes that all the dumber is a righty will be coming in to finish this game for us anyway – so why not for ONE ADDITIONAL OUT???
