Game 49 Open Thread - Royals (21-27) at Blue Jays (25-25)

Kansas City Royals at Toronto Blue Jays, May 24, 2008 1:07 PM EDT

It's Luke Hochevar (3-3, 4.29 ERA) versus Jesse Litsch (5-1, 4.22 ERA) this afternoon in Canada.

Luke was enjoying a nice May until the Red Sox intervened (which has been known to happen), so let's hope that we see a return to mini-form today against the Blue Jays.

Obligatory youtube clip of Canadian fans singing "Oh Canada" before a hockey game. You can do amazing things when your anthem doesn't suck and isn't impossible to sing.

If fundamentals

means catching the balls hit to us. We can’t sacrifice, our 8 hitter actually is a worse bunter than hitter (.160 avg) if thats possible and we have limited range in the field. Our pitchers do a decent job of throwing strikes however.

Yeah, because he's $&*#ing terrible

Leave it to Royals pitching to fall behind him 3-1, then throw him a pitch I could hit out of the ballpark with the bases loaded. Royals pitching… making horrible hitters good for… a very long time.

This lineup is absolutely terrible...

After we lose today, we’ll be 6 games out in the division. Finally buried. Time for GMDM to make some moves, because so far I’m unimpressed. Bannister is back to sucking, Luke is getting shelled, Tomko’s ERA is close to 6, etc. We can’t score any runs, have no speed, AND suck at the fundamentals. Optimism is quickly weakening.

I agree

the offense is horrible, but I’m not willing to give up on the pitching after 2 bad weeks. The pen is still solid, the defense is strong. Get a couple bats, and this team is at least average.

Everyone talks about Pena and Gaithright and rightfully so but we also have a DH

that has 1 f’ing HR. One. At the DH spot. I think some NL teams have more HRs out of the pitcher slot.

by MKforKC on May 24, 2008 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

You

can pretty much pick every slot in the lineup and show we are lacking. Our leadoff hitter can’t steal bases, our 2nd hitter has 5 RBI’s, 3rd hitter hitting .200 against lefties, Cleanup hitter was hitting .180 in April, the 5th hitter is platooned, 6th hitter in a major slump .212 since late April, 7th hitter .244 with 2 hr .234 with RISP, 8th hitter is Tony Pena and 9th hitter has a .299 OBP. Our bench is hitting a combined .227 when you consider the catchers are dual starters.

If the pitchers don’t hold teams to 0-3 runs we are gonna struggle.

anyone else want to bring Shealy back up? I say give him the rest of the year to see what he can do and if he sucks, then go find a real 1st baseman.

by gordonrules on May 24, 2008 3:11 PM EDT reply actions

he

can’t fix anything for one he is injured. Butler isn’t our problem and after watching the guys in Omaha Aviles is probably the only better solution than any of the others. And that is only because Pena is soooo bad.

the only

thing I can think is maybe we are gonna try to make a trade and don’t wanna put someone on the active roster yet. Othewise we are just stupid. Why send Yabuta down he’s 35 why did we even sign him. Nomo couldn’t cut it and this guy sucks too. Drop him and Pena both.
