Game 49 Open Thread - Royals (21-27) at Blue Jays (25-25)
Kansas City Royals at Toronto Blue Jays, May 24, 2008 1:07 PM EDT
It's Luke Hochevar (3-3, 4.29 ERA) versus Jesse Litsch (5-1, 4.22 ERA) this afternoon in Canada.
Luke was enjoying a nice May until the Red Sox intervened (which has been known to happen), so let's hope that we see a return to mini-form today against the Blue Jays.
Obligatory youtube clip of Canadian fans singing "Oh Canada" before a hockey game. You can do amazing things when your anthem doesn't suck and isn't impossible to sing.

DDJ and Teahie must be thoroughly confused as to their roles on this team.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
I'm like seconds away from turning this game off already..
Alex clearly checked his swing

Naked Aggression Runs
Us out of another inning.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
If fundamentals
means catching the balls hit to us. We can’t sacrifice, our 8 hitter actually is a worse bunter than hitter (.160 avg) if thats possible and we have limited range in the field. Our pitchers do a decent job of throwing strikes however.

Great... Cue Luke walking in a run

Hm, I feel like I"ve seen this game before.
Brad Fucking Wilkerson?

Good game.. this one is over
Yasuhiko Yabuta is to Major League Baseball as Drew Carey is to The Price is Right
So I'm thinking this losing streak is going to be like, 10 games...
winning records follow good bullpens
Wow
3 Grand Slams in a 3 game stretch. Tough to win games when our offense average 3 runs a game and our pitchers are giving up 4 run hits.
sign Greinke a Evan Longoria type deal now.
Wilkerson Was DFA'd
By the Sailorboys a couple of weeks ago.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
Yeah, because he's $&*#ing terrible
Leave it to Royals pitching to fall behind him 3-1, then throw him a pitch I could hit out of the ballpark with the bases loaded. Royals pitching… making horrible hitters good for… a very long time.

If
I was coaching the other team I would just start treating Guillen like he was Barry Bonds. We might not score for a month if they did that.

So glad we will have runners on for Pena
Assuming Buck doesn’t GIDP…

Did we get a grand slam hit on us in Florida
Mike Jacobs or something?
Yasuhiko Yabuta is to Major League Baseball as Drew Carey is to The Price is Right
This lineup is absolutely terrible...
After we lose today, we’ll be 6 games out in the division. Finally buried. Time for GMDM to make some moves, because so far I’m unimpressed. Bannister is back to sucking, Luke is getting shelled, Tomko’s ERA is close to 6, etc. We can’t score any runs, have no speed, AND suck at the fundamentals. Optimism is quickly weakening.

Let's hope that losing is contagious
If the Royals win, then there are two losing teams on the field!
Hooch Plunks Stewart
On 1-2 pitch; at least he was trying to come inside.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
How many hits do we get the rest of the game?
I’ll go with 3. Litsch goes 8 as we swing at everything.
winning records follow good bullpens
Alright Royals lets get some runs here in the Top of the 3rd
Oh wait its already over…. 6 pitches… good work
Yasuhiko Yabuta is to Major League Baseball as Drew Carey is to The Price is Right
How come
the Bluejays 3rd SS is better than our 1st. Scutaro has killed us in the past and he’s there 3rd option at SS. Pena can’t hold his jock.
sign Greinke a Evan Longoria type deal now.
I would be willing to give about every AA shortstop a shot over pena and i mean that seriously
Yasuhiko Yabuta is to Major League Baseball as Drew Carey is to The Price is Right
When do
we play Detroit again. Might not win until we play them again. How can we beat Florida 2 outta 3 and look this bad the next 6 games. Is the NL that weak?

Thats the shitty Brad Wilkerson i know

It Is High
It is shallow, it’s….........an IF out on the first pitch!!!
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
wow
if you’re down 4 nothing in the first, don’t you pull Pena immediately for Callaspo?
we gotta score runs…
This space intentionally left blank.
Just blew through the heart of our order on 7 pitches
Back to back 7 pitch innings. Is this team even trying? I”ve never seen a team swing at more pitcher’s pitches in my life. This is beyond pathetic, 14 f’ing pitches to get 6 outs. You have to be kidding me.

What's amazing
Our ability to make just about any opposing starting pitcher look good on any given day is incredible.

I hate to say I told you so, I actually love to say it.
The Boston series was going to lead to a prolong losing streak. Looks like that seems to be the case.

Wow
one of those frustrating games by the Royals we’ve seen all too many times. Why can’t we just string some singles together at least?

Who ultimately made the call not to have us switch to the National League?
I really think that’s where the Royals path diverged to this horrible place we now find ourselves.

Pena Dropped Buck's
Throw, but it was a steal?
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
Everyone talks about Pena and Gaithright and rightfully so but we also have a DH
that has 1 f’ing HR. One. At the DH spot. I think some NL teams have more HRs out of the pitcher slot.
by MKforKC on May 24, 2008 2:43 PM EDT reply actions
You
can pretty much pick every slot in the lineup and show we are lacking. Our leadoff hitter can’t steal bases, our 2nd hitter has 5 RBI’s, 3rd hitter hitting .200 against lefties, Cleanup hitter was hitting .180 in April, the 5th hitter is platooned, 6th hitter in a major slump .212 since late April, 7th hitter .244 with 2 hr .234 with RISP, 8th hitter is Tony Pena and 9th hitter has a .299 OBP. Our bench is hitting a combined .227 when you consider the catchers are dual starters.
If the pitchers don’t hold teams to 0-3 runs we are gonna struggle.

I hope so. I picked up Litritch as a spot start.
But I have my doubts if they’ll let him pitch all 9. He hasn’t pitched more than 7 all year.
by MKforKC on May 24, 2008 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think we'll finish above .500 for another couple of seasons.
Culture of losing. As much as NY Royal and his sunshine outlook denies it exists, it’s very real and very suffocating.

Does
anyone else want to bring Shealy back up? I say give him the rest of the year to see what he can do and if he sucks, then go find a real 1st baseman.
he
can’t fix anything for one he is injured. Butler isn’t our problem and after watching the guys in Omaha Aviles is probably the only better solution than any of the others. And that is only because Pena is soooo bad.
sign Greinke a Evan Longoria type deal now.
I would send Yabuta down
and bring up whomever to take his place in mop up duty. And why do we only have 39 players on our 40 man roster? Seems like we are putting ourselves in a hole doing that.
the only
thing I can think is maybe we are gonna try to make a trade and don’t wanna put someone on the active roster yet. Othewise we are just stupid. Why send Yabuta down he’s 35 why did we even sign him. Nomo couldn’t cut it and this guy sucks too. Drop him and Pena both.
sign Greinke a Evan Longoria type deal now.
why do we
feel a need to use nearly every reliever every damn day. I am sure Ramirez could have gone 2 today why bring in Nunez? I am sure we will need him tomorrow. I believe Tomko is starting…..
Dayton
needs to draft a position player in every spot this year. Forget pitching.

HAH.. cmon lets get a run.. F that shutout

anyone know if Joe Dickerson is a real prospect? He is our only positional player doing anything with the bat besides the guys at AAA. Also plays CF in Wilmington. Only 22 years old.

Fix this franchise NOW!
It is really embarrassing being a fan of this franchise, sometimes. Most of the time.
FIRE MIKE BARNETT AND FIRE HIM NOW!!!!!!
It's times like these
that really temper one’s fanhood. Royals, I hate ya, but I love ya too. Boy I cant wait until we lose 12 in a row!
