Maybe I am way out of line here, but i am thinking outside the box...Could/should the Royals get Trot Nixon? I have no idea what they would have to give up and I'm sure there is a reason why he is in AAA, but he's putting up decent numbers and he seems like a guy who could help with younger players in two ways. 1. He is the definition of a gritty veteran, he plays with fire and might be able to give these guys a kick in the pants. 2. He might be able to teach a thing or two about plate discipline...just a thought.

Did you see how he hit for Cleveland last year?

Beware of 34-year-old journeymen who are raking in the PCL.

I probably disagree with you.

I did, he is basically an older

Teahen or Dejesus when you look at the stats (presumably, with a defensive downgrade) so, on paper he doesn’t look like an upgrade, but I would trade either one of those guys in a heart beat to get two or three years out of Nixon. This is one of those times when you have to look beyond the stats. I believe that he would help add some of the fercociously intense raging enthusiasm (FIRE) that the Royals seem to have lacked since…I don’t know…George Brett retired. Plus he knows what its like to perform in meaningful games.

yeah, except worse than Teahen and DeJesus...and older

So why would we want Nixon. And two or 3 years out of Nixon? Are you kidding? Ages 34-37? Do you know that players are declining rapidly at that age?

Is this fanshot and your comments in it all sarcasm?

I probably disagree with you.

Step away from the stat pages for a second and

don’t look at me like I am some kind of circus freak. I am talking about Teahen or DeJesus, I’ve got news for you, these guys are not the ones who are going to turn this thing around. they may have better stats over the next few years, but you can’t tell me that they are going to contribute significantly more wins…I don’t know if you get a chance to watch many of the games, but I do, and there is a prevailing lethargy that invaded the Royals many years ago, and the new management just cannot seem to shake it, and I’m willing to take a small gamble in the hopes that this guy can help light a fire and turn the corner just a little quicker. What’s the worst thing that can happen? There is a reason why otherwise young (and successful) teams like the Marlins have a 40 year old Luis Gonzales on their roster.

If you tell me that Nixon is very prone to injury, I’ll listen

"I don’t know if you get a chance to watch many of the games"

This is funny on numerous levels. NY’s around for almost every game.

And you agree DDJ and Teahen may have better stats, but that you’d rather have Nixon anyway?

What?

“There is a reason why … the Marlins have a 40 year old Luis Gonzales on their roster.”

Who’s our second baseman, again?

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

i do not want to get into a pissing match

Grud is old, but that is only part of the equation…

“Trot Nixon is considered the inspiration for the expression “Boston Dirt Dogs”. The signature is that of a “scrapper”, a player who hustles and isn’t afraid to get dirty to win a game.

Loved by Boston’s fans, Nixon is known for an extremely volatile temper and steadfast dedication to his teammates. In August 2005, while officially on the disabled list, Nixon remained in uniform and in the dugout with the rest of the team during the game. When teammate Gabe Kapler (who often acted as Nixon’s right field replacement) hit a long fly ball off of the Green Monster, the umpires ruled it a double. Nixon leapt off the bench and argued with such passion that Kapler’s hit had been a home run (television replays confirmed that the hit had landed above the home run line, and thus should have been ruled a two-run homer) that he was ejected from the game.

On October 1, 2006, with two outs in the fifth inning of the final game of the season, manager Terry Francona replaced Nixon in right field with rookie David Murphy. Knowing Nixon might be playing his final game with the Sox, the fans delivered a grateful ovation to Nixon as he ran off the field.”

Okay, Okay..

I humbly admit it was a bad idea, I am relatively new to this Blogging thing and I thank you grizzled veterans, who were here to show me the error of my ways. Armed with this lesson I will go out there and become a better blogger!

It wasn't a terrible idea

I think Trot could be a decent reclamation project as I said above. I just don’t think the Royals should be taking on players north of 30. They need to look for young players that have some upside.

No worries, mate.

Don’t take our general disagreement as a sign we don’t like you. We just don’t think much of Trot Nixon.

How to be a better blogger

1) Are you living with your mom/grandmother? If not, you should be.

2) What floor of the house is your private room in. It should be the basement, or the lowest, most daylight-free space possible.

3) If at all possible, try not to get out of your pajamas until after lunch.

4) Break up with any wife/girlfriend/significant other you already have.

5) Never, ever, play baseball.

You're forgetting

6) Be at least 300 pounds and so out of shape that you get out of breath putting on your own pants (which you rarely do since you just sit in your mom’s basement in your underwear).

I probably disagree with you.

You know, this whole line of thought

isn’t all that funny considering I’m eating a pork chop in front of my computers as I type this.

I always thought Joel was our “Leroy Jenkins”. Now we have some new contenders for that title.

Roasted or fried?

There’s a big different in viscosity. Or something.

Also, what do I have to do to get into the Leroy Tournament? Or am I already in?

Scissoring sanction?

Does that mean I am subjected to scissoring or forbidden to do so? And does it only involve other contributors to the site?

Luis Gonzalez

yeah, just ask the Dodger how enthusiastic he was about playing “elder statesman” there. Now, he only does it because he knows he washed up.

Sorry, a bit OT, but Luis Gonzalez is a prick. Um, in my perception. But i’m sure that 52 homer year was totally clean!

It's not really about DDJ or Teahen

It’s about whether Trot is possibly better than Ross Gload, who hits like a middle infielder, both in terms of lack of power and lack of plate discipline.

If the Royals acquired someone like Trot Nixon, then Teahen could move to first (since the organization doesn’t seem to want to develop Butler there, much to my chagrin) and Gload to the bench, where he belongs.

Good OBA, has had power in the past

He’d be a decent reclamation project, but don’t we have enough guys that we need to get a look at before we turn to Trot? We need to see if Teahen truly does suck or if he can ever get back to anything resembling 2006. If not him, we need to see what we have with Gathright. And Costa. And Maier. I’d rather take a look at those guys than bring in a 34 year old Trot Nixon.

No

No, we really don’t need another power deficient player. He slugged .336 last year, his IsoP has been down for years, and he can’t stay healthy. Take it from someone who had quite a bit of fun watching Nixon’s decline stage.
