Mike Sweeney has been placed on the 15 day DL due to left knee inflamation.. I knew it was to good to be true for him to play a full season.

He's actually hit pretty well thus far

Good for him.

Yeah, he's done nicely for the A's

I was hoping he might be able to salvage his career and have a rebound year, but the injuries just won’t let him go. Plus with Frank Thomas and Jack Cust, he won’t be getting much PT in Oakland anyway. Still, it would be nice to see him finish his career on a high note.

He's hit pretty well?

A .738 OPS, which is all of 19 points better than he hit for the Royals last year. And how good is a .738 OPS for a 1B/DH (he asked rhetorically). I like Sweeney as much as anyone. He’s one of the nicest guys ever to wear a baseball jersey, was very good for the Royals and I don’t blame him at all for his injuries. But he remains a light hitting 1B/DH who can’t manage to go 1/3 of the season without getting injured yet again. But he is a great clubhouse guy. I still think he is best suited to be a hitting coach/instructor in the majors or minors.

I probably disagree with you.

Until recently,

he was up over .300, making his line seem much prettier. I was just pointing out he’s hitting well for a part-timer, and that’s all. This wasn’t some irrational “man, our FO sucks for not retaining Sweeney” argument.

WE SHOULD HAVE RE-SIGNED HIM!

Just kidding.
