BOD: Boyfriend of the Day May 4, 2008
As I sit here watching the world ten pin championship, half from the remote not being near me and half out not really paying attention to what's on the TV at the moment, I have to take a moment to reflect upon today's game. This wasn't a big flashy offensive game. This wasn't even a mediocre flashy offensive game. But somehow, despite going against the likes of Sizemore and other Indians, we managed the win. We're 14-16 and though it's not much better than years past, the fact that we made it to May with a semi-good record is amazing. 12-15 at the end of April is almost a miracle.
This week we're battling epically against the tough american league, but soon my friends, we will meet a formidable opponent. Soon, fans all across Florida and Arizona and San Francisco and Colorado will wake up in cold sweats, dreams of terror haunting them; not just the fear that their National League franchises will be playing against the likes of the Yankees or the Tigers or the Red Sox. No, my friends. This is much worse. It is not so bad to win against an annual contender, against teams that "know how to win." No, these dreams of terror will not be of powerful offense.
They will be of a semi-awkward, mostly-anemic American League offense. An offense that, as previous years have proven, will translate to National League power house. The last thing that a fan wants is for their team to fall, broken and defeated, to such a foe. It is my hopes, then, that we will break hearts all across the country, that we will take Mount Sunflower for our own yet again, that we will prove to the nation and the national media that we are here and we're...well, no we're not queer. But they need to deal with it! Yes we can to prosperity, yes we can heal this nation.
Yes, we can. (translation for all those latinos out there: Sí, ¡se puede!)
And now that I'm done with my copyright infringements (I guess it's a female thing...oops, did I say that out loud?), on to the awards!

Boyfriend of the Day

Gil Meche!
Gil went for 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits (no one got past 2nd base...not on Meche's watch) and striking out 4. ERA update: 5.98. Keep dazzling me, please. I hope to see many more BODs in the future for you.
Smitten Kitten

Miguel Olivo!
Miguel scored both runs and hit a home run. Yay, home run! I like those. Even though he struck out twice, he still had his impact and I will overlook that.
Honorable Mention

John Buck!
So I wasn't really sure who to give this to, but Buck had a good line today. 1 hit, 2 walks. The only walks of the game, might I mention. Boy knows how to walk the line, mmmhmmm.

Seems like Soria should have as many points as he does saves...
But, oh well….I doubt he’s reading this and thinking “What’s a Spaniard gotta do to get points around here?”

Is he from Spain? If so, that's really cool.
I probably disagree with you.
