BOD: Boyfriend of the Day May 7, 2008
4-3. That would be my record for baseball games thus far this season. When I don't go to games, the Royals are a pathetic 2-6. Those two wins? Greinke starts. You may recall that brutal icky weather win against the Yankees back in April. And just 2 Fridays ago when we beat the Blue Jays. It was not pure luck that we won tonight, my friends. This was destiny. And in the most appropriate of ways, our offense put on their big boy pants and cranked some bagel winning high numbers in the hit column.

Boyfriend of the Day
Zack Greinke!
Or should I say Grein-KKKKKKKK? In a prolific game, Zack went for 7 innings, allowing 5 hits with 3 runs during that time. He had a shaky first inning, but settled down to get 8 strikeouts and only allowed 2 walks. Now all we need is for Cliff Lee to start sucking it up so Greinke will be the inevitable starting pitcher for the All Star game (and so our hearts can be broken when Francona goes with some washed up veteran from New York or Boston). And, as some of you may know, I've been boycotting the all star game for the past 2 years (after the Mike Sweeney pinch hit PIP extravaganza of 2005) but if my boy makes it as our player, I will watch. There's no chance in hell that he'd make the team and then wouldn't end up pitching at some point. You'd have to be crazy to waste that chance.
Smitten Kitten
Mark Grudzielanek!
Mark went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored. That's veteran grit (and a very creepy photo if I may say so). Oh yeah, and a 10 pitch first at bat that defined the game from the get go.
David DeJesus!
Not gonna lie, I've been trying so hard to save this photo for a Buck/DDJ double whammie win, but I couldn't hold it back anymore. There's just so much unwritten commentary for it. Discuss. Ahem, anyways...DDJ went 1 for 4 (he got a walk too!)...but that's not important. 3 run homer that blew the game wide open. We've come full circle from 2005 my friends. Back when Greinke got no run support at all. It's magical.
Honorable Mention
Alex Gordon!
Alex went 1 for 4 with a walk and an icing-on-the-cake 2 run homer late in the game.

Jose Gullen!
Gullen went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a single tonight, bringing his batting average up to the Gordon line. Yay!

Jered Weaver!
Jered Jered Jered. 10 hits? Really? And only in 3.1 innings? Oh...and 8 runs? Really? You made our anemic offense look like murderer's row. And that's hard to do, buddy.
Mr. and Mrs. Weaver...do you have any more punk ass sons you'd like to send to the majors? Because we'd like some more whipping boys...whether it be figurative like tonight, or literal...
On a few unrelated notes, I will be at both the Friday and Saturday games; Friday because David Cook will be there and friends want me to go with them. Saturday because umberellas are both trendy AND fun! I will probably be sitting downstairs on the first base side, and I'll even wear my RR shirt for easy finding!

An embarrasment of riches
I was actually at that game too. Its bizarre that we can just the rip the cover off the ball some nights but can barely muster 3 hits on others.
Also, I don’t think Greinke would’ve given up that 2-run HR if the game was on the line. I think he was basically just rearing back and throwing at that point.

I loved that last strikeout, though
he brought back the sloooooooooow curve.

Its even funnier if you put Zack and Grudz photos side by side!
Maybe Zack just found what Weaver left behind on the mound last night.
