Damn

What did the Bradley quote say after it? They were about to go to it and the video stopped. I bet it was funny.

If this was just a 1 time thing I would let it slide, and mark it off as a minor misunderstanding...

I would be less concerned about this except for the fact that this is at least the 3rd game that i can think of so far in the season series that Ryan Lefebvre has made some form of off the cuff remark about Bradley. The last 2 games in KC and at least once during the series in Arlington, Lefebvre has made comments about Bradley being classes or crazy.

I would be more tolerant of this if it was a member of the sporting press than it being an employee of the Royals. There is no way that this type of comments can be a positive for the organization.

Ryan shouldn't say that Bradley is classless or crazy?

First, he didn’t say that Bradley is classless or crazy. He said that the guy has issues and behaviors that he’s never seemed to get over. And he did so in a very mild way. Second, Bradley proved yet again that he is both classless and crazy.

Why is it not ok for a broadcaster to make mild criticisms of a player? Are they supposed to be positive about every player on every team? Are they supposed to ignore the bad things they do both on and off the field? How boring are these guys supposed to be? They’re pretty boring already.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I have no problem once or in passing...

atleast 3 different occassions in 2 series? If you have a problem with a player admit to it and move on. It puts the orginization in a bad light when its own employees of its PR department call out specific players on the oppositon on a regular basis.

How would you feel as a fans if during the Rangers broadcst today implied that Guillen is a cheat for the suspision of PED’s or Greinke and his emotional issues? And then couple that with 2 or 3 other mentions of the same thing already in the series?

Most would veiw that as a low blow or going out of the way to talk down about an opposing team. How is this any different?

I come from the old theory of if you want to criticize a player, focus upon your own guys you see and deal with everyday. Dont take the easy approch to rip somebody you really dont have to deal with everyday in the media

He made a few little comments

Little things. No big criticisms. No “bashing.” Nothing that any other player would have reacted to at all. I think it is ludicrous to say that these comments “put the organization in a bad light.” Other broadcasters say these kinds of things about Bradley. Everyone does. He’s done what he’s done and he is what he is.

How would you feel as a fans if during the Rangers broadcst today implied that Guillen is a cheat for the suspision of PED’s or Greinke and his emotional issues?

I covered this in another thread, but cheating is different. Ryan never accused Bradley of cheating. But broadcasters bring up Guillens’ issues and behavior all the time. I have MLBEI, so I get to hear other broadcasters and they always bring it up. They always bring up Greinke’s psych issues too. When you are one of the game’s biggest assholes with recurring behavior issues (like Bradley, Guillen, AJP), you have to expect broadcasters to talk about it. And they do.

Those little comments weren’t anyone being “ripped.” Bradley overreacted to something very little, and you are too. Are you a Ranger’s fan?

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I am a Rangers fan...

...and I think that, on the whole, this situation’s been overblown.

Bradley was upset. A lot of his reputation comes from just not talking to the media, so the only emotional reactions they see from him are these angry reactions. I know (based on local sports articles) that he feels like the media in other markets (as in, when he was with previous teams) has gone out of its way to portray him in a bad light. He said that now he just avoids the media because he doesn’t want to be a negative influence on the team.

However…obviously this is a negative. My honest opinion is that Bradley’s telling the truth. He was upset and wanted Lefebvre to understand that he isn’t that person. Of course, Bradley’s reputation (right or wrong) is one of a hot-head. I don’t think Milton wanted to confront Lefebvre, and I don’t think Lefebvre said anything really malicious. I think he spoke out of media perception, which is that Milton Bradley has personal issues.

Personally, I feel for the guy because he has been a fantastic player for us and our guys really, really like him a lot, but he gets very little positive national recognition. I’m sure that’s a huge point of frustration for a guy as emotionally driven as Bradley.

You don't think Bradley wanted to confront him?

I don’t think that he wanted to lay a hand on Lefebvre. But by all accounts he was, at the time, very emotional and very angry (he was yelling and crying in the clubhouse because of these very minor comments). So if his coaches hadn’t restrained him, he would have in the very least been yelling in Lefebvre’s face. Bradley isn’t known for his calm restraint. I think the notion that he just wanted to have a calm conversation with Lefebvre is laughable and doesn’t fit with how he was acting according to multiple sources.

It will be interesting to see if Bradley can get through a full season for once without injury. He’s a very talented player, but usually his seasons are cut short due to injury and/or suspension.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Sorry, I should've been more specific.

I meant physically confront him. I think that deep down inside, he wanted to just introduce himself and be calm to prove Lefebvre wrong, but given his emotional state at the time it probably would’ve turned into a verbal confrontation. The thing that gets me is a lot of people act like he’s a violent person.

by jwiscarson on Jun 13, 2008 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

He's not violent, but he does have serious anger and impulse control issues

And, quite frankly, there’s a huge maturity problem. Many players get criticized in the media. That comes with being a professional athlete. And if you have a long history of attitude and behavioral problems, you’re going to get more of that. You’ve earned it. He needs to just act like a mature adult and take it. This is not the last time such things will be said about them. I doubt this is the worst thing that will be said about him. He needs to learn how to deal with that. It’s called growing up.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I don't see what Hamilton

has to do with any of this, and that’s my only quibble. It’s not as if it’s breaking news that Bradley has issues.

A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

What I really didn't like about Lefebvre's comments

Is that if you didn’t know any better, you’d think Milton Bradley had serious drug issues. Ryan never really made that distinction that Bradley’s issues were anger management, while Hamilton’s were drugs. Maybe that’s what Milton was upset about.

Great Discussion

I love the multitude of opinions here and everywhere I see this discussion; it shows that we as baseball fans have a lot of questions to answer on what’s important to us, what is ok to say, and what we’re not saying.

We tackle that today at Gritty&Clutch:
