Weezer: The Worst Song That Ever Lived
During Monday's day game, when everyone present at the game thread started sharing what they were working on while watching the Royals, I mentioned I was working on a Weezer story. RR asked me to post a link upon completion, so here it is. It's my first column at my first job, and while feedback has been reasonable and positive so far, I know that's just because it hasn't ended up on Weezer fan sites yet.

Nice write up
Sounds like it’s a fun job. On Itunes, I did the sampling of all the songs to see if I wanted to buy the album and, of course, didn’t after hearing those 30 second samplings of each song. I do like the single, “Pork and Beans”, mainly for the verse about today’s popular music that Timbaland produces. I just like when people make fun of how crappy popular music is now. It kind of sucks that Weezer can’t quite find it anymore, as in my opinion, they are one of the best alternative bands of all time with some of their older stuff.

A thoroughly entertaining
teardown of a terrible song. That said, I like a lot of Weezer’s old stuff, so go choke.
I speak in jest about the choking.

"Pinkerton" is pretty much a classic
And I like a lot of the debut disc, though I never liked “Buddy Holly” at all (which is why it’s the only good-era song cited in the article). At this point, though, I’m pretty sure the Royals will make the playoffs before Weezer makes another decent album.

Nicely Done
Weezer deserves a good old fashioned pummeling…......always struck me as Pavement lite, and I don’t mean to disparage the good names of Robert “Nasty” Nastanovich or Stevie Malkamus by including their band in the same sentence with WEEZER.

Weezer
has pretty much stopped making credible music after Pinkerton and the green album is about half killer/half filler. They just try to hard to make pop culture references in songs to stay relevant and they haven’t focused on songwriting for what seems like a very long time. The new single is a symptom of this. I do hope they return to form, because they were one of my favorite bands of the 90’s.

album review or philosophy theory...and sequel shatting
The intelligence and intellect questioning of the bands in these types of reviews is laughable. Most bands are not trying to comment on the critical theory of consciousness…sheesh! They threw a riff together with a clever rhyme because they thought it was funny or sounded good. If you don’t like the riff or lyric then don’t buy.
I never enjoyed when having to do book discussions for the similar reason of "purpose". Whenever my teacher presented a theory on why the book was written as fact (and usually shot down any of my classmates or my theories) I always asked him/her how they knew, did they ask the author? I got kicked out a few times for showing up the teacher after those incidents.
That and the fact that sequels are always shat on. If it is the same style as the first albums, then the band is unoriginal. If the stuff is a new style, they are sell out pussies or they should “make good music like their old stuff.” From what I have heard from the new album sounds like Weezer…garage band silly weezer. I don’t think the reviewer likes that style of music.
Every band is trying to be U2. I bet half of U2’s inspiration came like this.
Scene at some red carpet. Entertainment Tonight reporter and Bono with sunglasses on.
Reporter: Listeners have really connected with your music and your stand against bottled water bans in San Fransisco.
Bono: (puzzled at first, but realizes he has an opportunity for his music to transcend into politics) Ya, that’s exactly right. We felt we could make a stand through our music…that and….he goes onto list his other 300 causes.
sorry for the tangent. the review fills the purpose for the hater website though, it’s just not clever hating funny.
At least Wally Joyner's not on the team....

Hey andrew, good job!
I read your review, and that was maybe the most thorough critique of a song that I’ve ever seen. The Onion AV Club has a review of the album (they say something like “Congratulations, ‘Make Believe’: You’re no longer Weezer’s worst album”). The comments there indicate that most people agree with you that they should have called it quits before things got this embarrassing!

Matt Sharp
Said it a million times, Weezer without Matt Sharp is like the Beatles without McCartney if John Lennon had been an insufferable nerdlomaniac.
I try listening to the Rentals new stuff, but it’s like going to a methadone clinic.

something awful -- impressive
I wouldn’t be surprised if Lowtax is a Royals fan—I believe he’s a native KC guy (or at least Missouri).

good read
Pinkerton was great, but the blue album was one of the five best albums of my life so far. I have great memories of that album from my middle school-era, and I can listen to it non-stop all day long without getting sick of it.
