We Need to Talk About This as a Family
PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today recalled Portland outfielder Chase Headley and outrighted outfielder Justin Huber to Portland.
----
On Gaslamp Ball most seemed surprised that Huber got the axe instead of Paul McAnulty, who hasn't hit any better than Huber and appears to be somewhat injured.

Grief counselors will be on hand tomorrow from 9 to 3
Does Huber have to clear waivers, or has he cleared waivers already? Huber has a 947 OPS on the road. If he keeps that up for an entire career, I’m pretty sure he’ll get serious Hall of Fame consideration.

I thought they'd have to expose him to waivers to get him off the 25-man roster
Regardless, the Royals Kingdom/Empire/Emirate mourns. Just when he was getting hot! They didn’t really give him a chance! This just is not right.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

How dare you? How dare you, sir!
How dare you imply that no team was willing to pick up Huber and pay him league minimum. Clearly there was some sort of secret deal between the Padres and the Commissioner’s Office to keep him in the Pads organization without exposing him to waivers.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I'm glad we don't have yet another bad 1B
Let’s face it, Huber can’t hit and is awful in the field. At least Gload does one thing well.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

And near Gold Glove quality defense
But defense isn’t that big of a deal at 1B, and that is why I’d DFA him. But bringing in another 1B who can’t hit isn’t the answer.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Huber v McAnulty
Huber: .246/.303/.393 (64 PAs)
McAnulty: .235/.373/.391 (139 PAs)
McAnulty hits lefty, which may have been an issue. From what I recall and have seen, he’s just as bad in the field and is slower than Justin.
Huber was on one helluva tear though: .364/.391/.591 in his last 24 PAs

Yes,
but why NOW? I am legitimately surprised given that Huber had knocked a couple out of the park recently.

The “why now” is because Huber was on a very mini mini-streak and they just don’t think he’s as good as McAnulty or any of their other many stiffs. When a poor player has a good 3 games, you don’t overreact to that and suddenly change your opinion of that player.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

You're making my bottle grumpy...
Huber was doing jez fine sez bug for a bench player/pinch-hitter, what with his recent upward trend. And McAnulty is even less useful.

I also wonder
Why the Padres are still allowing Tony Clark and his .319 SLG to take up space.

Probably because of his .381 OBP
.381/.319 is more valuable than .303/.393 (particularly if you think that power is a flash in the pan.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
