Game 73 Open Thread - Royals (30-42) at Cardinals (42-31)

Kansas City @ St. Louis

If the Royals are going to win a third straight one-run game in St. Louis and sweep the Cardinals, they'll probably have to do so without Joakim Soria, who has gone the last two nights.

Greinke (3.48 ERA) versus Brad Thompson (4.58 ERA) at 1:15 CST before the best fans in baseball.

I hate it when I think all signs point to a Royals wiin

1. Greinke’s pitching
2. The Cards third choice is pitching in this game and he hasn’t pitched very well in the majors or minors this year (and Cards fans think he sucks)
3. The Cards offense has been lifeless without Pujols

When I’m confident like this, the Royals usually lose. Damnit.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

What about the scouting reports?

I don’t think she was ever anything but a mediocre prospect, right?

The sad thing is,

she could pan out as well as possible, and still not even touch Jenna Fischer. Being blocked like that means she’ll probably have to get traded.

Still has tire marks from Brad Pitt (seriously slumming, even for a mimbo like Pitt). Couldn’t even convert him to Scientology, although his interest in that stuff was probably just to get her in the sack.

Well, at least we now know that he’s matured enough that he wouldn’t fake interest in someone’s interests just for sex.

Yeah, I had to hear about it when KC vs NY

and I only had access to Michael Kay. They were saying that Joba relly wants to pitch in an NL game because he says he’s a good hitter (not just a good hitter as a pitcher, but flat-out good hitter) and he wants to show off (despite what Hank Steinbrenner thinks apparently, although this quote was before that idiocy). And they said that Gordon says that Joba was a better hitter than him in college, and Joba says Gordon was a better pitcher than him.

by mazoboom on Jun 19, 2008 1:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It makes me really glad Papelbon

is staying the Sox closer. I might have to take a sabbatical from sports if it became round the clock Papelbon watch.

All this media hype about Joba is so much stupid overreaction to a prospect on a big market team. I’d bet real money that Soria would be a better starter.

It's all about market size

Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers. It’s all about the Benjamins.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by NYRoyal on Jun 19, 2008 12:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I forgot the Dodgers

good call. And yes, it’s about market size. It’s still frigging insufferable, because ESPN spends so much time with filler programs that it’s hard to believe they couldn’t make time to balance things out a little bit with their highlights shows.

A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

by NHZ on Jun 19, 2008 1:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Definitely

They are both talented pitcher, but Soria has the pitches and control to be a better starter.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Plus,

Joba seems as if he’s going to have real trouble getting used to not being “max effort” every inning.

Buster Olney

isn’t always a big market toady, as some people believe. He does have some good stuff. And yes, he’s pointed out how good Soria is on BBTN frequently.

But wow, there sure are some AWFUL analysts on BBTN now. The show is borderline unwatchable.

A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

He seems pretty sabermetric-oriented. Brian Kenny, Jim Callis, Rob Neyer and Doug Glanville. I’d watch that show.

I'm hoping

that the Rs can get back to within in 8 games by the ASB. That would put us back on pace for 75 wins and more importantly some noticeable improvement over 2007. I think it’s doable. I’m excpecting a big homestand against SF, COL, and STL.
