Yeah, he was. But I think a careful reading of the books (at least until the last one, where Rowling forgets to develop any characters besides Harry) shows that he wasn’t that much less mature than the other two, and, frankly, Hermione makes her own bed with her own pride and immaturity, culminating in the Book 6 disaster.

There’s a reason Ron’s the most popular character in the books: he’s the most likable.
