Game 78 Open Thread - Rockies (32-45) at Royals (34-43)
Colorado Rockies at Kansas City Royals, Jun 24, 2008 8:10 PM EDT
The Royals reacquaint themselves with JDLR (6.52 ERA) tonight, in what promises to be an emotional night at the K. It should be especially difficult for Dayton to watch de la Rosa in Rocky gray, as he was always smitten with Jorge's electric stuff.
The Royals counter with Zack Greinke (3.33 ERA). I may be dead wrong, but Greinke seems to have been fairly "meh" for the last month or so. I'd love to see him turn in a truly virtuoso performance.
With another win, we can reclaim another fan in western Kansas. I want Royals fans on the ground in Goodland!

Grudge match!
JDLR is going to come out firing tonight.
By the way! Today is “Tear Down The Ceiling For No Goddamn Reason Night!” according to Mr. Fix-It, my idiot father. Honestly, it’s like the man is trying to sabotage our chance of putting the house on the market.

I hope we’re keeping a close eye on the battlefront. I want… no, I NEED to know when our forces retake Jericho and make it safe for Skeet Ulrich to root for a real team again.

I'm sorry
I need to learn to bunt. I’m holding the blog back.

Olivo
has no discipline at all. Chase a breaking ball for strike one, take a fastball for strike two, chase a breaking ball for strike three.
This is not a recent development
it’s basically Olivo’s whole career. His plusses are power and a decent arm, his minuses are low-OBPs and occasional defensive lapses.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
guys like him
are so hard to watch. Think of how productive he could be if he swung at good pitches.
Vlad would be booooorrrring
if he swung at good pitches.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
It's a skill that he doesn't have,
not really something he can change, sadly. But yes, it’s frustrating. Still, he’s been a good addition for the Royals.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
it was a good pitch
he put a good swing on it

you lack discipline
over 25% strikeout percentage and .241 career batting average
its not like he’s young, he’ll be 30 in 2 weeks.

Wow
I know Holliday hits a lot better at home, but he still has some damn impressive power.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
ok i take that back about holiday being average
but who would we trade for him. I think hochevar and butler?
by GobbleforCyoung on Jun 24, 2008 10:12 PM EDT reply actions
But, they could get much much more in prospects
for Holliday and they don’t cost jack. You’d have to sweeten the pot for a player like that.

I can't say I'm surprised he gave up a homer there
he does seem to lose concentration when far ahead

I think he'll be too
homer-prone to be Hudson, but he can still be a mid-rotation starter.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
That was just a nice play all around
Teahen played it perfectly, threw a strike to Aviles, threw a strike to Gload, threw a strike to Gordon. Good D, love it.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
haha
awesome. greinke throws torrealba nothing but sliders all night and then pumps 95 to get him looking
Damn
Those 2 runs looked so much better than 3, oh well, we’ve got the lead…so what do we do? Mahay, Ramirez, Soria? Or does Greinke have enough for one more with the bottom of their lineup coming up?

99 pitches - does he come out in the seventh?
The concept of progress acts as a protective mechanism to shield us from the terrors of the future. - Collected sayings of Muad'Dib
its amazing
how little I respect the NL. We’re playing the NL champs and even before tonight I wouldve been disappointed if we didnt sweep
is greinke coming out for the 7th?
99 pitches with four righties due up, why not? I’d say let him go till a baserunner reaches
Is it just me
or do the Royals not look like their hacktastic selves at the plate tonight. Guillen has two walks! That’s nearly 1/3 of his season total
True. Blue. Third Place in 2008.
he should stay in
if they put in r ramirez, he’ll give up atleast 2 hits like usual
ron mahay is good for 3 up 3 down in the 8th 9 times out of 10
