How about a double-deal? While the Royals' interest in Eric Hosmer at No. 3 overall gets most of the attention, they might have an interest in one of Hosmer's teammates at American Heritage High School in Florida. Catcher Adrian Nieto has been on their radar for a while with later picks. The Royals have a pick in the sandwich round (36) and at the top of the second round (49) and perhaps may want to make it an American Heritage perfecta. Who knows, maybe taking Nieto will help make sure they can get the Scott Boras-advised Hosmer in the fold.

Yeah...
I think I screwed that up…Try this:
I say we take the five best players on that team
...and then they can play together throughout the minor leagues. They all get promoted at the same time, room together, the whole bit. We can call them the Fab Five. It’s not good draft and development strategy, but it would make for a nice story for Posnanski to write.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

...especially because the first time I read it, I thought you had typed “They all get promised at the same time.” Love the phrase for some reason. Very midwest high-school engagement sounding.

Dave over at Royals Corner
Seems to like Nieto quite a bit. I admit I don’t know much about him, but maybe having a buddy in the system will harbor good will and both will want to stay in KC.
