Berroa traded
"Dodgers acquired infielder Angel Berroa and cash from the Royals for infielder Juan Rivera.
Berroa will head to Triple-A Las Vegas for now. The 30-year-old former Rookie of the Year was hitting .291/.323/.519 with 10 homers for Triple-A Omaha. He'll be an option as a part-timer if the Dodgers' infield doesn't get healthy soon. The cash picked up by the Dodgers in the deal will likely cover the vast majority of the approx. $3.5 million he was still owed under the teams of his four-year deal. In Rivera, the Royals are picking up a non-prospect. The 21-year-old was hitting .241/.267/.345 in 10 games for low Single-A Great Lakes."
I mean I'm all for getting rid of Angel Berroa, but come on, if we are covering a lot of the salary, at least get a prospect for him, it's not like the Dodgers has a bad farm system(cough cough Astros). I can't find anything too positive about this Juan Rivera character besides the fact that he shares a name with a former Expos(BEST baseball organization ever! And yes, I was that Royal Expos fan if you are wondering) OF and he's a SS. His career number certainly don't look good, looks like a minor league fodder to me.
-1 for Dayton for not getting a spec out of Angel.

Couldn't help but think the Royals have been exorcised!!
Perhaps the direction of the team will miraculously head upward. Getting a 2-1 win in NY with Kyle Davies on the hill gives me hope. Mike Aviles with 2 hits and a run – that is a week’s worth of production from that position. Maybe I am on to something with the exorcist theme.
Trying to fun with a season that is teetering – I have no doubt that Berroa will go to LA and suddenly find the ball player from 2003 who teased us all with his ROY season.
Don’t know much about Rivera – haven’t done my homework. Let’s hope that LA is paying a good portion of the salary since the player returned looks like no one to be excited about. Those dollars can be pumped into signing bonuses for say – Tim Melville or Eric Hosmer. Just a thought – don’t know if front office accounting works that way or not. At the worst, KC saved 500K with not buying out Berroa for next year.

-1 for Dayton not getting a spec out of Angel????????
Are you kidding? I mean really, are you kidding? Do you think that a deteriorating 30 year old Berroa was worthy of even a marginal prospect? Do you think that Moore has received better offers for Berroa and turned them down. Berroa sucks, period and Moore was lucky to be able to trade him at all, in any way, for anything at any time. Has everyone forgotten that Berroa might be the worst all around regular in Royals history?
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I can think of a few worse. . .
Neifi Perez, Felix Martinez, etc. Berroa at least had the ROY season.

To be fair, NYRoyal
we are talking about Ned “Snakeskin Boots” Colletti here. He was probably waiting until Berroa turned thirty. “deteriorating, aging…” Yeah, you have to be little surprised the Royals didn’t get LaRoche or Ethier out of this.
OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

man I'm not talking LaRoche or Ethier
But come on? A relatively marginal spec? or add something and get a decent spec?

I fail to see how Juan Rivera helps the team in any way shape or form
besides getting Berroa off the team

It saves the Royals money
The reports are conflicting (the Dodgers official site said that the Dodgers picked up almost all of his remaining $3.5M salary). In the very least it saves us the 500K buyout. That’s more of a positive than having him in the organization.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Just making a Ned Colletti joke. And now you’ve ruined it!

if you don't like him
think how Kemp/Ethier felt last season getting benched for Juan

No
You simply don’t get a prospect out of Angel Berroa if they’re paying the salary.

we are also
sending them cold, hard, cash

We got out of some of the money we owe him.
That’s a positive. I’d rather save one cent than to spend that cent and have him taking up space in Omaha. He’s worthless.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

No kidding?
I’m aware of this, but we’re no longer spending as much as we were before on a sunk cost.

I'm confused
The snippet says the Dodgers are picking up his salary, but the post seems to be critizicing Dayton for having the Royals pick up the salary. Which is it?

Just for the record
I still am glad to see Berroa gone. Money be damned. Any return on him is a bonus.
