berroa and salary
there was some debate over who paid the salary. Basically, everybody (ap, kc star, la times) all said royals picked up the salary, but the dodgers team site said differently. well, they amended it.
"The Dodgers will be responsible for only the remaining pro-rated portion of the Major League minimum salary for Berroa, not the $3.5 million remaining from his multi-year contract, as earlier reported."
royals got about .75 mil (buyout and pro rated min salary) and a crappy prosect for berroa

If I could get .75 mil and a crappy prospect
for my HD-DVD player, I’d be okay with that.
Sarcasmâ„¢. It's the new gravy.

That beats the 50k we got for huber.

This is a win for the Royals
Anyone think we could have gotten anymore more for Berroa from any team? Anyone think we would have been better off having to pay that extra $75K?
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Correction
$750K
I know know if there is any relationship here and I don’t if the budgeted money is in any way transferrable, but a freed up $750K might be the difference between signing and not signing Tim Melville who wants about $1.5M.
If we can now sign one draftee (any of them) that we wouldn’t have otherwise signed, because we traded Berroa, then this is a spectacular trade for the Royals.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

:( really sad face
so as i do more research, i think we are covering the potential buyout as well (i.e. we sent an extra 500k their way whether they buyout the contract or not)
and when u consider we still pay a salary to the org filler we got in return, we really only traded berroa for 100k-200k
soooo…. this was a cleanse the org of his failure move or maybe giving out coach’s son-in-law a “chance” somewhere else move, other than that, blah

Pretty much pointless then. Oh well. Good for Berroa anyway.

Do you think the Royals should have kept them?
Is this another one of Moore’s “bad trades” in your opinion? What benefit would the Royals have from keeping Berroa?
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I think this was an obvious shot taken at RR by Moore.
1) Less jokes, although I guess we can still makes jokes about him in LA, with Ned “Snakeskin Boots” Colletti thrown in. On the other hand, there will be less immediate access to news and rumors.
2) More importantly, it’s takes the scintillating, super-duper important “who sucks less, Berroa or Pena” debate out of the hands of the bloggers. Yeah, this is all part of a conspiracy between GMDM, Buzz Bissinger, and the mainstream media to undermine our spirit. Be we shan’t let them, say it with me:
COSTA NOW!
COSTA NOW!
COSTA NOW!

He didn't say it was bad
Just pointless. Juan Rivera is a nothing prospect, Berroa is a turd. It will end up benefitting neither team. Not a bad move, not a great move, just the only move Dayton really could have made.

That's why I asked
It was not pointless. A little money was saved and a 21-year-old non-prospect has a better chance of becoming something than a 30-year-old has been with diminishing skills. The trade certainly isn’t a world beater. It is a minor positive.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
