Food in ballparks
I posted this early in today's game, but wondered what people thought of the choices. Some comments were very funny (CHISOX).

Yankee Stadium
After 3 more games at Yankee Stadium, I can tell you that there is almost nothing particularly good or interesting there. I’ve never had the Cuban sandwich they mentioned, and it is only available at one spot. Like every stadium, they have some specialty foods, but they have amazingly little. I mean, there are usually over 50,000 people there and I would imagine there would be a large market for foods other than hot dogs and nachos. But, for whatever reason, they’re not interested in giving fans more options. The Yankees organization takes fans for granted. They just don’t much care. Mostly they just have the standard hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, etc.. It’s the same crap you can find at most large multi-plex theaters. Oh yeah, and $5 small bottles of water on 95 degree days.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

yeah
I remember even nachos were considered somewhat exotic at Yankee stadium. You could only find them at a couple of places, and nowhere in the upper deck. I haven’t been to a game there in a couple of years, so maybe nacho penetration is now more widespread.

Skydome
I agree with NYRoyal on Yankee Stadium for the most part. It will be interesting to see what they do with the new place. If they would have done a decent renovation on the original, it could be like Fenway, but they let it rot and did a crappy remodel job in the 1970s (?).
Skydome food blows. Even less distinctive than Yankee Stadium, and the hot dogs are even worse. And since they traded the Orlando Hudson a few years back, you can’t even order an “O-Dog combo” (just multiple lukewarm hotdogs).
I never saw the “Grille” at Yankee Stadium, and I don’t know where you’d get a Montreal smoked meat in the Skydome. The sausages are just like any other street sausage at the Skydome. It would have been nice if the reviewer realized that Montreal smoked meat is just pastrami, but no dice. I’m sure it sucks and the ‘dome, which, while it might have turned heads in the 1980s, is pretty much devoid of any personality at all, and the food reflects it. But it’s a great deal for the Argos!

I forgot one thing about the Skydome
It’s freaking Canada, and as far as I know, they don’t even have poutine! For those who don’t know, it’s french fries, then you put cheese curds on top of that, then you put hot gravy over the whole thing, which melts it all together. Very Canadian, and very salth and delicious.

"Foodies" aren't a big fan of cheap, grocery store style hot dogs

Garlic fries
Are terrible in San Fran and they smell up the whole joint if someone orders them. I don’t get the appeal. Just about everything else at Pac Bell is tasty. And they have a plethora of options ranging from sushi to crab sandwiches to hot dogs to Carl’s Jr. burgers.
I remember the Yankee Stadium hot dogs being gross. That’s the only thing I ate there. If you’re in New York you’re better off eating before the game and one of their many awesome hot dog or doner kebab stands.
I like that in Baltimore, they have hot dog vendors that wander the stands. They keep em hot with those old fashioned warming boxes. They’re pretty good. I also disagree with the piece about the crab cake sandwiches. I thought it was pretty tasty.
The BBQ at Kauffman is not that good IMO. I’m not a huge fan of Gates though, I think they’re pretty overrated. The Sheboygan is probably my favorite ballpark meal at the K.

that reminds me of the College World Series
one of my friends always get a Bloomin’ Onion. Great, a deep fried onion dripping grease while you are baking under a June sun in Omaha. Just what I want next to me in the stands. Stink, grease, mess…. and no beer

more on AT&T Park
the aforementioned garlic fries aren’t that bad. they do, however stink up the joint, so you’re likely to not enjoy them so much if it’s your neighbor eating them and not you..
otherwise AT&T Park has lots of options, it’s true, but, coupled with the ticket prices, the whole experience is prohibitively expensive. a decent beer, for example, is $8.75. (and there’s no sense ordering an MGD to save money since even those are $8.50.) sushi and all of that business is great – few people eat sashimi more often than my girlfriend and i – but it doesn’t really belong at the ballpark. the combination of all of these things makes Giants games kind of bourgeois and lame.
i much prefer A’s games since, despite Oakland’s reputation, i find A’s fans much more knowledgeable (more score cards per capita) and much more pleasant to be around.
Bay Area readers take note: a web site called Goldstar regularly offers 1/2-price tickets to the Giants and A’s. (Warriors, etc too.)
