Put them in a body bag! Yeah!
Can never have too many Karate Kid references.
should try this lineup when DDJ gets back
Aviles
Grudz
DDJ
Guillen
Gordon
Butler
Teah
Buck
Gload/Gath
Billy at worst will be Sean Casey jr.
I'd switch Teahen and Grudz
But otherwise that’s probably about as good as it can be right now against RHP. Against LHP you definitely get Olivo in there somewhere.
All The Gload
You can stand and more. At least he is starting to hit some; he has always had a decent BA, so he’s due. Mostly singles, the occasional double and a homer or 2 or 5 are about what you get from Rossy, and that’s better than he’s been.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
the crazy thing about it
is the last 2 or 3 games, when he has come up, I’ve been thinking; “OK Gload, c’mon now, step up here and bloop one in”, as opposed to the rest of the year when I was saying, “Ah shit, we’re F’d”

I'll like that lineup a lot more...
once we put DDJ in CF, Butler at 1B, and Olivo at DH.
Olivo at DH against lefties

The point is you've chosen to bash Grudz...
... the 38 year-old fill stop gap player who’s second on the team on OBP and gold glove defender over everything else wrong with this team? Last I checked, NOBODY is hitting with RISP. Our team leader has an astounding 13 home runs. We are tied, as a team, for the second fewest runs scored a game. Our middle relief sucks. Joey Freaking Gathright is our best option in centerfield. And you have chosen Grudzielanek as your whipping boy? Really?

where to start....
1. grudz is FAR from a gold glove defender now, in fact id argue he was when he won the GG.
2. gathright is our backup CF, which by definition makes him NOT our best option in CF.
3. a big part of the reason we suck at scoring runs is b/c guys like grudz cant move a damn runner over.
4. last i checked, ramirez and mahay are pretty studly…one of them surely is middle relief
TPJ...you're dead to me

k
1. Grudz is a VERY solid defender. Not too far from where he was in ‘04.
2. Gathright has played 315 MORE INNINGS in centerfield than DeJesus, which would imply he is our best opion.
3. By “guy’s like Grudz” I can only assume you mean 2/3 of the team.
4. Ramirez and Mayhay are late innings guys, not middle inning guys, like Peralta and Gobble.
Blown Save

than the REST OF THE TEAM with RISP. Do you not get that? He’s 113 points worse than a group which INCLUDES Pena, Gathright, Gload… which is precisely WHY he only has 15 RBI. The fact that you said “just shows how few have got on base before him” shows you’re completely off-base. He’s had plenty of people get on base before him. And he’s doing nothing at all with them.

I'm sure you are aware of this, given your great knowledge of the 2008 Royals...
... but there was an extra innings game last night that exhausted our bullpen. A game where Gobble was one of the few to not pitch. Hillmen doesn’t have an option here.
Blown Save
he doesnt have peralta and his 692 ops against over the past 3 years?

given last night's game...
... I’d assume you’d want the better pitcher in there at this point in the game.
Blown Save
except gobble turns every RH hitter into Albert Pujols...
where Peralta turns them into Grudz with runners on base….what would you prefer?

well, then you and trey should hang out...b/c thats fucking absurd...
gobble doesnt get righties out…so dont put him in against righties…its pretty much common sense.
putting gobble in there is similar to putting butler in to pinch run at 2b when you need him to score the tying run on a single

tejeda a 702 ops against righties
its not like we were in the 4th inning….more than likely…we had to get 6 outs when we brought the gobbler in….6 outs with ramirez, ,gobble, peralta, soria….if we indeed needed to pitch the ninth

I'm not trying to just argue with you, really
but 3 batters he faced were lefties, it was the best possible place to fit him in with a tired bullpen, IMO
by I need more Esteban on Jul 1, 2008 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions
the best place to put him is in with 1 out that inning to face the next 3 batters
TPJ...you're dead to me
by billybeingbilly on Jul 1, 2008 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions
I just think you're being a little unreasonable
what if because of your move, we come back in the ninth and tie it and have another extra innings game, what do we do then? Who is the long man now, you’ve just wasted to pitchers in one inning with a bullpen that is pretty limited tonight….i dont know, i just think it takes more than looking at stats to manage a bullpen over an entire season
by I need more Esteban on Jul 1, 2008 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions
we need to play to make it to the ninth....
from there we have one of either tejeda or ramirez to go for multiple innings….they were both starting very recently

Looking for positives...
I would rather lose games like this, where we seemed to have chance-after-chance, only to never capitalize as opposed to simply being dominated by some random pitcher who will be out of MLB in a couple of years.
It has been awhile since we just completely gave up on a game and went down without a fight, and when you do that you will win a lot more games.
Like that old saying; each team has 40 games they’re gonna win, 40 games they’re gonna lose and the last set of 40 games really defines how good your season is. This was one of those 40 you’re gonna lose, but at least we had opportunities and gave ourselves a chance.
A hit here, a smart defensive play there and the game is completely different.
Even when we are losing, we seem to be making progress.
But maybe I’m just an optimist…
flip a coin for the other 42?
jk…i know what ya mean….although i disagree that this was one of those ‘gonna lose’ games….this was one of the 80 up for grabs

I would rather lose like this, because we didn’t capitalize on opportunities (which should change with law of averages, regression to the mean, etc.) than losing 7-0 and being shutout without a chance to win after the 3rd inning.
