should try this lineup when DDJ gets back

Aviles
Grudz
DDJ
Guillen
Gordon
Butler
Teah
Buck
Gload/Gath

Billy at worst will be Sean Casey jr.

I'd switch Teahen and Grudz

But otherwise that’s probably about as good as it can be right now against RHP. Against LHP you definitely get Olivo in there somewhere.

by jsolo on Jul 1, 2008 6:39 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

All The Gload

You can stand and more. At least he is starting to hit some; he has always had a decent BA, so he’s due. Mostly singles, the occasional double and a homer or 2 or 5 are about what you get from Rossy, and that’s better than he’s been.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

the crazy thing about it

is the last 2 or 3 games, when he has come up, I’ve been thinking; “OK Gload, c’mon now, step up here and bloop one in”, as opposed to the rest of the year when I was saying, “Ah shit, we’re F’d”

by I need more Esteban on Jul 1, 2008 6:42 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'll like that lineup a lot more...

once we put DDJ in CF, Butler at 1B, and Olivo at DH.

how many times has he failed to get a runner from 2nd to 3rd with nobody out?

how many times has he grounded into DPs when all he had to do was hit a fly ball or a ground ball up the middle? He’s a veteran who’s being paid well. He has no real good qualities other than his veteranness and he’s terrible at that.

TPJ...you're dead to me

by billybeingbilly on Jul 1, 2008 8:39 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's 113 points of OPS worse with RISP

than the TEAM average. Which includes all the stiffs that litter the lineup.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

by jonfmorse on Jul 1, 2008 8:49 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

where to start....

1. grudz is FAR from a gold glove defender now, in fact id argue he was when he won the GG.
2. gathright is our backup CF, which by definition makes him NOT our best option in CF.
3. a big part of the reason we suck at scoring runs is b/c guys like grudz cant move a damn runner over.
4. last i checked, ramirez and mahay are pretty studly…one of them surely is middle relief

TPJ...you're dead to me

by billybeingbilly on Jul 1, 2008 8:50 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

k

1. Grudz is a VERY solid defender. Not too far from where he was in ‘04.
2. Gathright has played 315 MORE INNINGS in centerfield than DeJesus, which would imply he is our best opion.
3. By “guy’s like Grudz” I can only assume you mean 2/3 of the team.
4. Ramirez and Mayhay are late innings guys, not middle inning guys, like Peralta and Gobble.

Blown Save

by BlownSave on Jul 1, 2008 8:57 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

VERY solid defender

is an overstatement. I like Grud but his lack of range has him playing 2b like any other middle aged beer drinking guy I can get at the local slow pitch softball games. He is a stationary target with little range.

by jonfmorse on Jul 1, 2008 8:50 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

In fairness

Grudz is rocking a .642 OPS with RISP, and a .682 OPS with runners on at all. He IS sucking with runners on.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

by jonfmorse on Jul 1, 2008 8:40 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You're criticism of Grudz

is way off base. What the hell do his RBIs have to do with anything….with his average, that just shows how few have got on base before him over the course of a season…

by I need more Esteban on Jul 1, 2008 8:54 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I just have to agree with BlownSave

with the problems this team has had, saying Grudz is awful is rediculous. He is in the top 5 on the team in:
R, H, 2B, TB, AVG, and OBP…...soooooo what?

by I need more Esteban on Jul 1, 2008 9:12 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

someone has to be...5 someones in fact....

so, gload sucks…hes supposed to suck, same with gathright, pena, etc

TPJ...you're dead to me

by billybeingbilly on Jul 1, 2008 9:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And he's 113 points of OPS worse

than the REST OF THE TEAM with RISP. Do you not get that? He’s 113 points worse than a group which INCLUDES Pena, Gathright, Gload… which is precisely WHY he only has 15 RBI. The fact that you said “just shows how few have got on base before him” shows you’re completely off-base. He’s had plenty of people get on base before him. And he’s doing nothing at all with them.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

by jonfmorse on Jul 1, 2008 9:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

there it is...

thats how he’s killing us and why im critical of him…if he’s gonna be that terrible at that skill, he better be damn good at something…and hes not

TPJ...you're dead to me

by billybeingbilly on Jul 1, 2008 9:16 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

With that stat

I won’t disagree that he’s underperformed with RISP…..the argument that billybeingbilly made, however, was that Grudz was “the worst #2 hitter he’s ever seen”....that is what I was arguing with, not that he has underperformed with RISP.

they may not be, but just because you should be out of an inning...

it doesn’t make all the ensuing runs the fault of that player

actually yes it does completely

Well

1st inning he didnt throw home on a given out easily (ya i know but he did have the ball in his hand) then he tried to get some bullshit out at second and through to late and they ended up not getting an out later they would have been out of the inning with no damage but they score 4 instead

I'm sure you are aware of this, given your great knowledge of the 2008 Royals...

... but there was an extra innings game last night that exhausted our bullpen. A game where Gobble was one of the few to not pitch. Hillmen doesn’t have an option here.

given last night's game...

... I’d assume you’d want the better pitcher in there at this point in the game.

except gobble turns every RH hitter into Albert Pujols...

where Peralta turns them into Grudz with runners on base….what would you prefer?

TPJ...you're dead to me

well, then you and trey should hang out...b/c thats fucking absurd...

gobble doesnt get righties out…so dont put him in against righties…its pretty much common sense.

putting gobble in there is similar to putting butler in to pinch run at 2b when you need him to score the tying run on a single

TPJ...you're dead to me

yup, that is exactly what it’s like

tejeda a 702 ops against righties

its not like we were in the 4th inning….more than likely…we had to get 6 outs when we brought the gobbler in….6 outs with ramirez, ,gobble, peralta, soria….if we indeed needed to pitch the ninth

TPJ...you're dead to me

by billybeingbilly on Jul 1, 2008 9:25 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not trying to just argue with you, really

but 3 batters he faced were lefties, it was the best possible place to fit him in with a tired bullpen, IMO

by I need more Esteban on Jul 1, 2008 9:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I just think you're being a little unreasonable

what if because of your move, we come back in the ninth and tie it and have another extra innings game, what do we do then? Who is the long man now, you’ve just wasted to pitchers in one inning with a bullpen that is pretty limited tonight….i dont know, i just think it takes more than looking at stats to manage a bullpen over an entire season

by I need more Esteban on Jul 1, 2008 9:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

we need to play to make it to the ninth....

from there we have one of either tejeda or ramirez to go for multiple innings….they were both starting very recently

Yimmy Freakin Sucks

if they can unload this Stiff for anything it would be nice. His numbers will flatten out against lefties and get closer to that career .260 BAAgainst.

Billy at worst will be Sean Casey jr.
