Josh Newman to KC
According to the transactions page on cbssports.com, the Royals have acquired LHRP Josh Newman off waivers from Col. He was only in 2 games at the MLB level this year with less than spectacular results. His stats in Col Springs were pretty good: 1-1with a 2.45 ERA . 22ip 16 hits, 9bb and 18 so. He was sent to the minors. Seems like a decent pick up. I wonder what the other leftys in Omaha think. Thoughts???

minor league LOOGYs are the currency of baseball
It looks like he is a fastball/changeup/curve lefty reliever who sits around 86-87 MPH with his fastball. According to his AAA numbers, he can miss an occasional bat (7.36 K/9) but with middling control (3.68 BB/9). In 84 IP in AAA, he has only given up three HRs (none this year). His AAA splits against lefties this year are nice (.174/.259/.217), so maybe he can become a cheaper version of Gobble.

Seems kinda redundant
With Gobble and Musser already in the organization, but its not like he’s taking a roster spot from anyone. Seems like he has some control issues. I suppose he’s going to Omaha?

But how long is Gobble around?
He is already in his arbitration years and due a raise from his $1.3 million even with his performance this year [insert random Gobble deserves paycut joke here].

Gooble is definitely on his way out
even though I think he is better than he has shown this year

I think if he could regain his role of LOOGY then he would be fine.
But with our relievers having to pitch 3+ innings each night, Gobble is forced to pitch longer periods of time and thus getting exposed to righties

Just a depth signing,
I’ll wager. Nothing really to see here.
