Game 96 Open Thread - Mariners (36-58) at Royals (43-52)

Seattle Mariners @ Kansas City Royals

The Royals go for the glorious sweep we all expected today at the K.

Your pitching matchup is Carlos Silva (5.59 ERA) versus Hiram Kyle Davies (4.71 ERA). We're coming up on a solid three weeks since Davies has made a nice start, but he's reportedly extremely excited about representing the Royals in the Battle for Grass Creek.

Well, that's sorta nice

If Olivo was starting, then I would have expected the Mariners to score 7.

But how many fucking homers and RBIs will DeJesus have to hit before he gets put in the 3 spot? How many times can one knock in Buck and Gload before proving himself?

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 1:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yea...

then we can have gathwrong in the leadoff spot! yay!

I was thinking

someone like Aviles or Teahen around that spot.

If Gathright consistantly hit like he did late on Friday, then he’d have an actual starting job. They give him so much room in right-field on their defensive alignment.

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 1:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Maybe

RF Teahen
DH Butler
CF DeJesus
LF Guillen
3B Gordon
2B Grudz
Crappy hitter
Crappy hitter
Crappy hitter

That might work. I would like Butler protected by DJ and Guillen, and I think his singles and doubles at the top of the lineup could help score runs, his poor baserunning notwithstanding.

We need Teahen...

...to step up to the plate AND produce. ...Grudz in the five spot—-coach sure is trying the take the pressure off Butler and Gordon. – TL

It's All Part

Of the Savage Singles Salvo we plan to unleash on an unsuspecting adversary. Then, when it gets to the top of the order, DDJ cleans it all up. Inscrutable, no?

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

by philofthenorth on Jul 13, 2008 1:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I guess as...

...long as we score, the order doesn’t matter. Of course we know that pitchers like early leads. To quote that famous philosopher Tony Soprano, “What can you do?” – TL

Vacation plans

Teahen plans to nail his girlfriend repeatedly

And don’t ask me why Butler, who is from Florida, has family in Idaho now.

you mean to tell me that

Billy had his choices of Floridians for years, and he picked someone from Idaho?

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 1:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Idaho Was To

The 90’s as Colorado was to the ‘70’s; Californicaters who were in a position to do it moved there. Very chic.

Soria recieves batting practice jersey

Yeah, he’ll need that in case Francona overdoses on insanity peppers and makes Soria pinch hit for A-Rod

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 1:57 PM EDT   0 recs

That would make the ASG

interesting enough to watch,
for once.

Gritz And Reed

In the respective 5 holes must be the most powerless occupants of that spot in the bigs, maybe ever.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Pimentel just pitched a scoreless inning in the Futures Game...

...he’s likely done for the game, so no need to watch and be forced to listen to Steve Phillips.

THIS TIME IT COUNTS….for the future.

I got a little worried

When he dealt a walk and a hit with two outs. Glad he got out of it.

yes....

that’s how bad it was.

I just threw up in my mouth.

I remember that game clearly

Carrasco got a huge strikeout of Bret Boone to get out of it in the 9th. Then Beltran won it in the 10th. I believe that was the only time we’ve ever been on FOX Game of the Week.

one of our games got picked for FOX this year too....

....can’t remember when, but I heard/read that they changed a game time to accomodate tv.

by Fernando Vina School of Linguistics on Jul 13, 2008 2:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The Fox game was 8/16/03

Where DiFelice got ejected and started throwing stuff on the field and Elvys gave up 9 before going off to get TJ Surgery

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 2:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Gathright would have caught that

while barely avoiding hitting Teahen

and nice catch by Teahen, the leather is already flashing!

New or was I not paying attention?

great AB by ibanez

he saw everything hiram had to offer.

if only we weren’t playing in a friggin homerun vacuum.

maybe next time up hiram should pitch around the mighty raul.

What are the Vegas odds of

a brawl breaking out during the Ladies Night game?

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 2:18 PM EDT   0 recs

Vegas odds of..

Tim the Between Innings Douche proposing marriage to someone during ladies night: 9:1

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 2:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Granted

for all we know, Tim the BID is Ryan’s 2nd cousin

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 2:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

probably top 3

I’d have to say Mr. White is the best.

by I need more Esteban on Jul 13, 2008 2:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

obviously . . .

who else is in the top tier?

by royalstern05 on Jul 13, 2008 2:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

not sure

That is a little beyond my years, I’m sure one of the oldtimers could field that, though.

by I need more Esteban on Jul 13, 2008 2:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Rojas Is In

The discussion, but it’s White by a long shot. He’s borderline HOF.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

No, But He

Was a solid MLB 2B for a decade+.

Cookie Rojas

Rojas is one of the most popular Royals ever. Frank actually had pretty big shoes to fill.

Second tier Royals second basemen:

Terry Shumpert
Jose Offerman
Tony Graffanino
Chico Lind
Carlos Febles
Jerry Adair

He wasn't in it when I started

But I think he’s like 85 or so now.

1 in grit of course.

Relive Royals History at royalsretro.blogspot.com

by RoyalsRetro on Jul 13, 2008 2:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

right now???

top 35 . . .

he could move up exponentially if we reach the postseason with him.

by royalstern05 on Jul 13, 2008 2:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Chico Lind objects

although I don’t think we kept many starting 2nd basemen for more than 2 years

by BHWick on Jul 13, 2008 2:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

hmm... I don't know...

if he gets traded at the deadline, he’ll have one full season, one half season and another half season (roughly)

by royalsreview on Jul 13, 2008 2:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

well the season isn't over

He was over .300 last year at this point, im sure, but he ended a little under.

I’d have to say him winning a gold glove with us, and getting his 2,000th hit with us adds to his lore as a Royal.

by I need more Esteban on Jul 13, 2008 2:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

his entire career

was just portending an eventual gritty veteran leadership filled stint of greatness with the Royals.

Accidentally not thedude925 anymore. I do hate this new name.

by wildthang on Jul 13, 2008 2:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Royals surprisingly, have been pretty stable at 2nd base

Opening Day starters, all time:

Grudz
Gotay
Relaford
Febles
Offerman
Roberts
Lind
Shumpert
White
Rojas
Alcaraz
Adair

"....no that's Robin Roberts. Says here that your card's worth ten cents."

—That Tony Gywnn/Bip Roberts Beckett Baseball commercial is CLASSIC.

“Ten cents in excellent condition, but fifteen cents if completely mint”—Bip Roberts

by Fernando Vina School of Linguistics on Jul 13, 2008 2:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

maybe, but most of the hits came in other places, so its... sorta mitigated

he may be second best though, all time

basically its him or Rojas

by royalsreview on Jul 13, 2008 2:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah you're right about that....

interesting question, If he were to go to the HOF (I know he won’t), what team would he go in as? Cards? Dodgers? Royals?

by I need more Esteban on Jul 13, 2008 2:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

hmm...

3.5 yrs in MTL
4.5 in LA
2 in CHC
1 in STL
3 in KC

I guess DOdgers, where he was probably his best, although he got lots of lve as a Cub, and is having a Ryal resurgence

by royalsreview on Jul 13, 2008 2:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Deadline deals

wonder if the Brewers need a 2nd baseman (especially one who was born in Milwaukee)

carlos silva

is just absolutely terrible

Febles played in 506 games at 2nd...

which is nothing to sneeze at
