Game 97 Overflow Thread - Pray For A Sudden, Violent Hailstorm

Greinke's out, Peralta's in, it's 7-1 as the fifth inning starts and we somehow still need an overflow thread. Three cheers for us for our ridiculous devotion (it has nothing to do with having nothing to do on a friday night, nosirree)!

by Royals Nation on Jul 18, 2008 10:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

By the way, the whole 'confidence booster' with Gobble is idiotic

We jump right back into the game, and then bring out our worst reliever. All for a stupid, nonsensical confidence booster.

Hillman is utterly horrendous at managing a bullpen.

by Royals Nation on Jul 18, 2008 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Probably because GMDM realizes Gobble could be an effective LOOGY on a competitive team

With a manager that understands the concept of having a lefty specialist.

winning records follow good bullpens

by slayor on Jul 18, 2008 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK, but how much difference

would only facing lefties have on Jimmy Gobble and his 8+ ERA?

Would his ERA return to a respectable level? As in….anywhere below 6?

Not this season

That’s for sure

winning records follow good bullpens

by slayor on Jul 18, 2008 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, but if we had only used him against lefties this season

....Would the difference have been that great? I’m thinking he would have been well below average if used in any situation, considering how badly he’s getting crushed. Anyone have his splits vs. righties and lefties this year? Maybe I’m wrong.

by Royals Nation on Jul 18, 2008 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, wow, am I ever wrong.

vs. LHP: .149/.200/.277/.477 !!!!

That is just bad bullpen management right there. Hillman’s insistence on not using Gobble as a LOOGY has cost us 1-2 games, at least.

by Royals Nation on Jul 18, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

but yeah, he definitely should never be facing RHB

winning records follow good bullpens

by slayor on Jul 18, 2008 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, I'm being serious

....in that Gobble should be used as a LOOGY….after assessing those #s, he could still have value in that role, now, IMO.

At first, I didn’t think the difference would had been that great…and that he would have struggled against lefties or righties this season….but I was obviously wrong.

by Royals Nation on Jul 18, 2008 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What an awful, awful way to use a member of the bullpen

Does Hillman even look at statistics? Gobble is strictly LOOGY material! He demonstrated that last season, and the numbers prove it again this season!

by Royals Nation on Jul 18, 2008 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs
