Rany gets credit for coining it.

i thought someone on here coined it

Did you happen to catch this in the deadspin comments?

This story is obviously from the Onion.

No one blogs on the Royals, and if they tried it wouldn’t be “excellent”, it would be more disturbing than being forced to watch Requiem for a Dream on a loop with your eyes taped open

whoops -- that whole thing after the "catch this in the comments"

was supposed to be italicized

Yeah, I Read

Deadspin regularly, and I thought some of these people actually followed sports. I obviously was mistaken.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

was it one of the comments on Ranys nickname post?

I seem to recall that Rany was hesitant to use a etnhnic tag… as in the Hispanic Panic craze at the beginning of the season…

That Seems Kinda

Goofy; since when is “Mexican” a perjorative? It’s no more offensive than “American”, which is really a misnomer of sorts.

I guess the idea is that...

Mexican isn’t pejorative, but that using it as the basis for someone’s nickname might be…

by Freneau on Jul 19, 2008 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I also think

that, although it’s far removed and not apparent from the nickname in itself, it is a “tribute” to Buddy Bell’s “Mexican tough” comment…

The subtleties of Royals-watching are lost on the masses.

I think Michael Scott said it best when he asked Oscar

“Let me ask you, is there a term besides ‘Mexican’ that you prefer? Something less offensive?”

Mr. Emeritus Loves The Royals Review

For the record, I’m extremely fond of the Royals Review. I can not speak for the current editors, though they’re quite smart.

I’m heading to Kauffman for the game Monday night. First time. They let you bathe in the fountain, right?

Best,
Will

I can't believe one of the Best Fans in Baseball would even consider such a thing

Remember to politely stand and applaud after each Royals sacrifice bunt, though.

(As if you needed us plebians to remind you!)

WE HAD THE NICKNAME FIRST!!! OVER A MONTH EARLIER...

The nickname didn’t show up on Rany’s site until May 19th:

If it’s not too offensive, I think ‘The Mexicutioner’ is an absolutely spectacular name for Mr. Soria.

We had it on April 3rd:

What about we take Mexican and executioner and make Mexicutioner for Soria. No ideas for Nunez.
