Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Reliever Leo Nuñez should rejoin the active roster before tonight’s game against Detroit. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since suffering a strained muscle in his upper back May 27 against the Twins. The Royals must make a corresponding roster move to clear space for Nuñez, who was 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA in 21 appearances before his injury.

KC Star -- Royals Notebook

Who is gone? It has to be Gobble, doesn't it? The name-test says Ho-Ram, but it is hard to argue with the (admittedly small sample size) results thus far. Or maybe we go all pitcher-crazy and dump TPJ. As ridiculous as 13 pitchers is, I wouldn't really complain as long as TPJ is the one going down.

Thank god

Nunez instantly makes the bullpen a lot better. I think I’d send Peralta back down. I believe sending Gobble, H.Ramirez or Tejeda down would require exposing them to waivers. Peralta can easily be optioned. Since Peralta has been so consistently homerific, I’d rather send him down and continue to see what we have in H.Ramirez and Tejeda. And I’d rather not completely give Gobble away at this point.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

You're right.

I totally forgot about Peralta.

Still, with FVSL’s FanPost on how we’ve used Gobble this year, I wouldn’t be shocked for him to get the axe.

by rockchalk on Jul 21, 2008 2:07 AM EDT up reply actions

I would agree that Peralta is the odd man out

but FWIW, he has improved lately (July): 3 ER in 7 IP w/ 6 H, 0 BB, 7 SO and only 1 HR. A small sample, but lets hope it is a sign of good things to come.

yeah

at least he has a history of being a decent reliever. Last year he had a pretty good season. (especially compared to this year)

+1 on Peralta

If he can go down and get some work to get back in shape, I think he could be helpful down the line in a middle-relief role. Ks are good.

I can't imagine TPJ going anywhere

until after September 6. The organization would look foolish to the casual fan to either not have him on the team that night or have to call him up for that night.

by Shooter on Jul 21, 2008 10:32 AM EDT reply actions

Can't they

Just call it Joakim Soria bobblehead night? Would anyone be able to tell the difference?

People take this TPJ bobble head night thing way too seriously

Who cares go they give a bobblehead night to? And does anyone think that the Royals personnel moves are limited by which players have promotional nights? That’s ludicrous.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by Scott McKinney on Jul 21, 2008 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Your right....

it makes perfect sense for them to keep him on the roster. I guess September 7 we might find out we were wrong.

by Shooter on Jul 21, 2008 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Huh?

I’m not sure where you’re getting this from. I don’t want him on the roster either. But he’s not on the roster because of any upcoming promotional nights.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by Scott McKinney on Jul 21, 2008 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I could care less, but I would assume they do these promotional

nights in the hopes that it will land a few more butts in the seats – I wouldn’t think that visions of TPJ bobble through heads, but I suppose there are a good number of 5th graders who could care less who it is, as long as they get some hardware—-my Dick Howser bobblehead just started shaking his head spontaneously.

My mother's basement is better than YOUR mother's basement!!

by Royal Kingdom on Jul 21, 2008 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

For some reason people like bobble heads

I’m sure it adds a little to the gate, even if it is TPJ. Why did they choose TPJ (among several others)? Who knows. And what’s more, who cares? If it affected or restricted personnel moves, that would be bad. But I don’t think there is any good reason to think that it does or will. TPJ is on the roster because they like his defense and more specifically because the other SS on the roster is a below average defensive SS. It’s that simple.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by Matt Klaassen on Jul 21, 2008 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

If Nomo had been given a bobble head promotional night, he'd still be on the pitching staff

They would have kept him for as long as it took to save face. That’s all that’s really important anyway.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by Scott McKinney on Jul 21, 2008 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Perhaps the baseball people are waiting for

the promotions department to anounce Shane Costa bobblehead night, so they have an excuse to call him up.

I don't think so

He has dominated lefties this year and there is someone out there that could use him correctly and get value out of him.

Gobble’s usage might be the weirdest part of the 2008 Royals season to date.

I'll second the motion on

Peralta, if he’s got an option. I liked the guy a lot in 06-07, but I think the workload has worn on him to the point where he’s thoroughly generic this year. As long he stays away from injury, he should be fine as depth in ‘09 if the Royals choose to keep him around.

He has options

He has been to Omaha twice already.

How long will Nunez last with the team?

He seems to fit into the mold of guys that Moore has traded—max effort guys with injury concerns.

If he has a good outing or two, it wouldn’t shock me to see him moved.

Kidding, of course

but i just realized that I bet Buzz had has almost as many “incidents” in the last 12 months as Milton… maybe more. To lazy to count it up now. That would be pretty freaking funny.

Buzz and Milton deserve it

Nonsense.

TPJ is the best pitcher on the staff, and deserves all the praise Ryan can possibly muster.

You can't argue with TPJ's stats

His pitching averages are the best on the team.

He has the same numbers

As both Frank White AND Paul Splittorff.

by RoyalsRetro on Jul 22, 2008 9:50 AM EDT up reply actions

He might get traded

But if it happens, I think it is more likely to be this offseason or next offseason. He’s coming off of injury, so he’s not going to be the kind of guy contenders are fired up about acquiring. Moore recognize the value of pitching and Nunez has proven himself to be a good pitcher. I think he’ll keep him unless and until a really good offer comes along. I don’t think Moore is eager to trade him. I think he’s willing to trade him.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
