Around SBN: Phillies trade for OF Matt Stairs Bar-right-arrows

Game 103 Open Thread - Rays (59-41) at Royals (45-57)

Tampa Bay @ Kansas City

Gil Meche finds Matt Garza's constant smiling for pictures to be unsettlingly un-manly.

Of course, compared to his Twins days, he's making progress towards the joyless, menacing, version masculinity that we expect.

Oh, and Garza (17.1 VORP) has been better than Meche (12.3 VORP) this season, which is really something to scowl about.

so this will be his one time in the lineup before next week?

I think we’re on Game 35 of the “Ross Gload consecutive starts” streak

by BHWick on Jul 24, 2008 8:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Maier now!

I hope Gil can build o his good start against the White Sox

by royalsreview on Jul 24, 2008 8:03 PM EDT   0 recs

Question:

Gathrights on the DL, Maier called up.

Who takes Maiers place in AAA?

Is Kila Ka’huie getting his chance?

by RoyalPug on Jul 24, 2008 8:05 PM EDT   0 recs

Yes, But...

Omaha still has 4 OF’s (Costa, Lubanski, Buchanon, Hollins) and only one 1B(Stodolka) who frankly isn’t producing very well (.278/.337/.401)

Can’t really think of a better person to call up

Also I can't help but notice...

Omaha’s webpage has Bulter and Gathright in the banner at the top

Which reliever will Trey abuse tonight

My pick.. Ramon Ramirez throws 55 pitches for no apparent reason (on Tuesday, Peralta was out there for 50+ pitches for no apparent reason)

by BHWick on Jul 24, 2008 8:06 PM EDT   0 recs

He toasted Gobble back in April

before Gobble had given up a run. 45 pitches in 2/3rds of an inning against Cleveland, and Gobble got pulled before facing a lefty

by BHWick on Jul 24, 2008 8:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

and Gobble was sent out with a 10 run deficit and an ERA of 0, to throw more pitches than he had in the entire season, mainly against RHB

by BHWick on Jul 24, 2008 8:10 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Trey put Mitch in the game for a reason

it’s ladies’ night and the ladies need a fresh person to cheer for

by BHWick on Jul 24, 2008 8:11 PM EDT   0 recs

He's expecting him

to go 4-5 with 2 HR and start a new round of orgasmic claims of the second coming.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

Joel is going to be used as cheap labor tonight

to figure out why the warning track keeps flooding

I bet he can still outhit

Gathright!

Unless you’re one of those fundamentalist Evangelicals who don’t believe Mormons are Christians.

A two-strike, two-out pitchout?

God, that’s one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen. WORRY ABOUT LONGORIA.

25 pitches per inning..

Isn’t half bad for this rotation right now

by RoyalPug on Jul 24, 2008 8:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Just a reminder

If Longoria draws a walk, it’s all random happenstance because Meche couldn’t throw strikes. Nothing to do with Longoria’s ability at all!

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

Royals v. Garza

DeJesus: 5 for 14 (now 6 for 15)
Aviles: 1 for 3 (now 2 for 4)
Grudz: 0 for 3 (now 0 for 4)
Guillen: 2 for 5
Gordon: 2 for 7
Butler: 3 for 10
Gload: 4 for 8
Buck: 2 for 6
Maier: 0 for 0

by BHWick on Jul 24, 2008 8:32 PM EDT   0 recs

Maier has never been retired by Garza

Brilliant Trey!

Fortunately for the Royals

Gunnery Sgt. Hillman will be unable to use Gathright (1 for 11 against Garza) tonight

by BHWick on Jul 24, 2008 8:33 PM EDT   0 recs

Uh, Ryan

I don’t think Rusty’s spent a lot of time discussing the finer points of taking routes with Mitch just yet, moron.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

by jonfmorse on Jul 24, 2008 8:36 PM EDT   0 recs

You know, If we could change the rules...

so there were only 2 outs per inning… Our pitching staff would be INCREDIBLE.

I refuse to set up a signature....DAMMIT

by RoyalPug on Jul 24, 2008 8:41 PM EDT   0 recs

But he doesn't have Joey's speed!

And how will Mitch distract pitchers?? Haven’t you considered that?

Relive Royals History at royalsretro.blogspot.com

Speed is the most important tool.

When it comes to outrunning carniverous predators. Not sure about baseball.

by djk royal on Jul 24, 2008 8:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It's also pretty important

when you’re really, really tired and have to play baseball.

do you think

if Alex didn’t shave his arms it would be similar to Giambi growing a mustache? Might break this slump…

I count pitches.

by royallyblue on Jul 24, 2008 8:46 PM EDT   0 recs

Aviles woulda gotten to that ball

I saw it once last year

When the Angels were in town. One of the Angels actually kissed his teammate on the hat.
