This may seem strange coming from a BP guy, but the truth is pitchers are babied these days, and that babying has gotten out of hand."

the funnything is...
remember how that loss was supposed to totally destroy the Mets’ season, destroy their confidence, etc.
then they won the next two games against the same team

It really bugged me when
Trey yanked Davies and Meche at 98 and 100 pitches respectively this week. I would have left both of them out there to at least see if they could squeeze out another clean inning.

Rany actually says that he thinks teams have gone from one ditch to the other on pitch counts now
And I’ve come to believe that there is something to the argument that guys need to be trained to be able to take higher pitch counts. That doesn’t mean push pitchers to 120 pitches as often as possible and that doesn’t mean disregard the fact that a pitcher has gone over 100. But one can be too cautious with major league pitchers and keep them down in the 90-105 range too much. Then they probably won’t have the stamina to go 115-125 when you need them to.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

It hasn't seemed to phase Gil, since the game he went 129 pitches
his ERA is 3.35.

So far he's looked like an iron man for the Royals
I really thought he’d fade last year, but he was dominant in September. And he doesn’t appear to be fading this season. Just the opposite. But sometimes the bill comes due. If he goes down with a major injury, I’m going to be pissed at both Bell and Hillman.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I am reminded of Peralta's troubles this year
Though he’s not a starter, Bell rode him hard the last two years and he exceeded the ‘safe’ level of increased innings (isn’t it 15%?) over a season both times. I really like Peralta and thought he did a hell of a job for us last year. Buddy should have pulled him after 2IP a few times though, instead of letting him go 3-4 most times out.

I think the rule of thumb is 30%
But Bell really did ride him hard.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

i always thought it was 30 more IP than the year before....
which means we’ll definitely need to send soria somewhere to start in a winter league if we want him to start next year.

Or they could just give him some starts in September to get his season IP count up
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
