Game 105 Open Thread - Rays at Royals
Tampa Bay Rays @ Kansas City Royals
Could the news Rays hats be any more boring?
I know they're going for a clean, mature, we're-not-a-goofy-90's-relic vibe, but seriously, a plain "TB" design? There's not even a cool way they are interlocking or an appealing typeface (like our beloved Royals use).

Is it too soon to complain about Maier not being in the lineup?
Seriously, they have to be trying to showcase Gload and German right?
Bench Gload, slide Butler to first, slide DDJ to left, and put Maier in CF…cause we’re small market, and we can’t afford to throw away money for high gas prices to bring him up here and not play him.

Or if you insist on keeping Butler as a DH...
anyone else think German could handle first base? I know his numbers are down, but as crowded as our middle infield is (again), if we insist on showcasing him for a potential trade, don’t do it as the expense of developing our own prospects/finding out what we actually have.

Why no Teahen?
Is this a way to get German a few more at bats to showcase him just before the trading deadline?

Is anyone else ironically depressed that Grudz is hitting third?
Not any knocks against him, he’s had a great year, it’s just another reminder how far we still have to go that the only other real option for that spot in the lineup also has to hit leadoff.

I've noticed something disturbing about Grudz.
He’s gotten better every year since coming to town. (His OPS+ is a little lower than last year due to a power slip, but then he’s not a power guy anyway.)

makes it all the more frustrating that his value is so low for potential trades. We just need an epidemic to send the 2B on the bosox, yanks, angels, cubs, rays, etc. to the DL.

It's the battle for Jasper, Alabama
Jasper, about 20 minutes northwest of Birmingham, is the current eastern end of the currently-under-construction new Interstate 22, which will connect B’ham with Memphis. It’s about 635 miles from KC, and 630 miles from Tampa. Jasper has a population of about 14,000, and is the county seat of Walker County.
Jasper’s sympathies clearly lie with our beloved boys in blue, as Jasper’s initial boom in the late 19th century was the result of the completion of a railroad line through town. That railroad? The Kansas City-Memphis & Birmingham. With such a deep historical tie, one might suspect that the local citizens of this fine community may take great objection to the trespasses of those vile heathens from Tampa.
Jasper is the location of 1977 Class 4-A football state finalists Walker High School, and is the birthplace of famed comedian George “Goober Pyle” Lindsay and Polly “Flo from Alice” Holliday, as well as former Speaker of the House William Brockman Bankhead. Actress Tallulah Bankhead grew up in Jasper. More recently, Jasper was mentioned as the hometown of James “Sawyer” Ford from the television series “Lost.”
Let’s arm the troops, and drive those Floridian bastards back to Birmingham. FOR JASPER.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
