Around SBN: Terry Collins, David Wright, And The Mets/Brewers Kerfuffle

Tejeda has posted a 3.07 ERA in 14.2 innings as a Royal. While he's walked seven, he's also struck out more than a batter per inning, with 16 Ks.

We're pretty damn good

at assembling a bullpen, aren’t we? With both Tejeda and HoRam, it’s hard to figure on why no one thought of pitching them exclusively in relief roles before.

its easier when you are the new team

for example… the Royals will probably wait for forever to demote/convert Davies to the bullpen, but if someone traded for him, it might be the first thing they do

With Rosa coming up, I don't think they'll be so hesitant to move him to the bullpen

There will be a battle for the 5th starter spot in spring training. The winner goes to the rotation, the loser becomes the long reliever. I don’t think they’ll hesitate to have Davies be the long reliever if Rosa continues doing next year what he has done this year.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I think starting pitching too.

He’s good at evaluating and acquiring pitching talent, period. He doesn’t bat 1.000 of course, but he does damned well. The hitting, not so much so far.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I assume that is sarcasm. But yes, it actually is.

Of course, when you have a surplus of that currency, it needs to be spent. Hopefully Moore will do some of that this offseason.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

It's interesting that Tejeda gets the small sample size love of a fanshot of his own

H. Ramirez has been better. Better ERA, FIP, K/BB,.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

sorta done on purpose

since we’ve talked about Ho-Ram so much, basically from the beginning

by Freneau on Jul 28, 2008 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, don't be such a negative nelly

he’ll have his time in the spotlight (or fanshot).

Let’s be honest, with ourselves I think everyone’s kind of expecting HoRam to give up an 11-run triple every time he’s in the game. His track record still scares people, even if he’s done well.

Ouch

But since you brought it up, she does keep coming back, so there’s that.

Everyone should expect a regression from H.Ram's stats

But he could regress a long ways from where he is currently and still be decent. One thing I’ve noticed is that he’s not just pitching th same way and getting different results. Before this year, his pitch selection was

FB 55%
Cutter 15%
Slider 8%
Change 5%

This year it is
FB 56%
Slider 19%
Cutter 18%
Change 1%

He’s stick with his best pitches (which should be expected from a guy going to the bullpen) and abandoning the ineffective pitches. I don’t think the good results are entirely a fluke. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised to see his ERA and FIP go up to the low 4’s, but that’s pretty good for a front of the bullpen long reliever.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by Scott McKinney on Jul 28, 2008 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, I know

I’m not saying that I think Ramirez will regress terribly or anything like that. I’m just saying it’s easier for us all to think Tejeda could keep it up given that Ramirez was so terrible with the Mariners. I’m not saying that’s backed by the stats, I’m talking psychologically.

A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

by NHZ on Jul 28, 2008 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Tejeda is more interesting because he has more upside, but the small sample sizes should not get anyone too excited

Both Tejeda and Ramirez are lottery tickets, but Tejeda is one where you can win a few thousand dollars even if not all the numbers hit, while Ramirez is a scratcher with a top prize of $10.00.

by Gopherballs on Jul 28, 2008 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions

that's an interesting theory

I’m not sure if I agree with it

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

interesting

he is listed as a starting pitcher by Yahoo
and, he has only pitched in losses – something people had noticed about Gobble.
