Game 108 Open Thread - Royals (48-59) at A's (53-52)

Kansas City Royals at Oakland Athletics, Jul 29, 2008 10:05 PM EDT

Your pitching matchup features a surging Gil Meche (4.31 ERA) versus Greg Smith (3.90 ERA). Both are from Louisiana, Meche from Lafayette, Smith from Alexandria.

How Jose Guillen feels about this, I cannot say.

Grudzielanek hitting third again.

while Butler hits 5th and Gordon 6th. I don’t see the logic there still.

And why the hell do the Royals have a starting firstbaseman who hits 9th? That is just crazy madness.

I wonder if Kia’s promotion to Omaha means that Shealy is on the way up to the bigs again?

I see it

Grudz is one of the best in the AL vs Lefties. I don’t understand why Billy isn’t playing 1b and have olivo DH. Did Trey really think he played that awful when he was there, what did I miss?

I thought he was motivated by boos

Perhaps we need some west coat RRers to get to the game to boo him.

Jose Guillen in the field again

Christ almighty… this isn’t going to get any better, is it?

So, when does Jose start throwing his stuff at the dugout after getting mad at a manager? Like he did in 2004.

by BHWick on Jul 29, 2008 10:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The thing I hate about Guillen

is he had every chance to make a nice clean denial of this, lay blame somewhere else, come off as a victim, and then he goes and says something along the line of “it better have not been someone on this team. I’m going to find out who did it, and it will be bad if it was someone on this team.”

Well no shit it would be bad. But you could have avoided that and not caused any more stir in the clubhouse.

My parents told a story about going to Canada once, years ago. My parents have never owned weapons, my Dad probably never fired a gun.

Anyway, when the border guys asked if they had any guns or fireworks, they said no. Then he asked where they were from, they said “Oklahoma.” He then asked, “Are you SURE you don’t have any guns?”

Aviles now moves into 24th in Royals history

For extra-base hits by a shortstop, tying Kurt Stillwell in 1991 and Fred Patek in 1975.

Sacramento is going to be awful next year

They have an arena vote coming up and if they don’t build a new arena, the Kings are going to leave. Possibly to Las Vegas, but Kansas City will be a relocation canddiate.

Frank (Vegas): 7 of the last 10 Pirate #1 draft picks have been pitchers, with none (except for Paul Maholm) having much of an impact on the major league team. Compared to many other clubs seeming success vs the Pirates poor showing, is this a result of bad drafting, or just bad luck (due to injuries)?

Will Carroll: Mostly bad drafting. Bullington was never anyone’s #1, Moskos? Cmon. There’s some bad luck in there, but man, they took pretty much the same opportunity that the Rays had over the last decade and did a Bree Olson on it.
