Palantonio had a great piece right after the retirement

it’s still on espn.com. Can’t get it all here, basically points out that Farve can’t be the best QB ever if he isn’t the best in the history of his own team… mocks the media’s obsession with his “grit.”

Here's what I don't understand.

It’s Brett Favre. He’s the retired QB for the Green Bay Packers.

THERE ARE ONLY LIKE 200,000 PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THIS STORY.

BUT.. but...

BRETTFAVRE poops gold. BRETTFAVRE beat cancer by throwing touchdown passes. BRETTFAVRE loves his dad so much that he played football on a Monday and won. BRETTFAVRE defeated the Taliban by running the West Coast offense. BRETTFAVRE is Barack Obama’s hero. BRETTFAVRE is the Chosen One. BRETTFAVRE…...BRETTFAVRE… BRETTFAVRE….

Paolantonio
Indeed, a decade after his last moments of glory, the football hype machine continues to paint Favre as a hallowed icon of Americana, a symbol of all that is right with sports, a Wild West gun-slinging good ol’ boy. There’s Brett on the farm! There’s Brett with his family! There’s Brett on the cover of Sports Illustrated! There’s Brett throwing another overtime interception!

From this.

by powderbluepower on Jul 30, 2008 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm not sure why

I just don’t like him. I knew some people who shared a box with his parents in Green Bay. They didn’t think much of Brett’s personality, either. Drunk, pill-poppin’ party boy. Wins one Super Bowl (mostlly hon the backs of an awesome D, Desmond Howard, and a crappy opponent), then chokes enough the rest of the time to make A-Rod look like George Brett.

Bart Starr is turning over in his grave.

Funny story, actually

I worked the night shift last night and I got done at 11:30 p.m. central. The Royals only had the ninth inning left, so I figured they were good. My coworkers went out drinking because one of them was turning 21. Of the 6 of us, 2 called in sick today, one had a hangover when he came in at 4 p.m., two would be considered “walking hangovers” because they came to work but regretted it greatly, and I was fine because I knew my limits and left before I “[drank myzelf] into ze obliffion.”
