NYROYAL.....

I'm sorry that I have a clue about the game and you don't...same goes to Devilfingers...You guys don't know what line-outs are, do you?...I've seen Gload line-out about 30 times right at an outfielder or infielder...There is nothing you can do about smoking a ball right at someone...Guys that hit .300 and above get LOTS of Texas-league chink hits, that's fact...Say what you want, but people who know the game, know that he hits balls hard...You guys saying that he's got a terrible swing and never hits balls hard, are absolutely wrong...NYROYAL, if I talked the way that you did on my earlier post, in a condiscending, ass-hole tone, I would've been kicked off the site...RoyalsReview will have to look into your tone...You don't hate Ross Gload, you hate me and you hate him because I like him...I never said that Teahan didn't play hard, I said that he's not as good as everyone thinks; then you get your panties in a knot trying to defend him...I like Teahan, but he's not an all-star stud...Hate me, that's fine, b/c I don't even know you and a could give a shit less about you...Don't make stupid comments about Gload that show that you don't have a clue about the game though.....

Joel, that was spectacular

So Gload’s awful hitting has all been bad luck, huh? Boy, that’s amazingly bad luck for him to be such a great hitter and have the worst hitting stats for any first baseman in MLB.

Guys that hit .300 and above get LOTS of Texas-league chink hits, that’s fact

I know. .300 hitters are just awful.
NYROYAL, if I talked the way that you did on my earlier post, in a condiscending, ass-hole tone, I would’ve been kicked off the site…

No, you always talk in a condescending tone and that never gets you kicked off the site. Will (royalsreview) kicked you off the site (twice) for calling people “MORON!!!!!!!!!!11” about a dozen times.
...RoyalsReview will have to look into your tone

Actually, I’m a moderator on this site, so I’ll look into it.
You don’t hate Ross Gload, you hate me and you hate him because I like him…

Oh Joel, it’s really weird that you think this is about you. First, I don’t hare Ross Gload personally. I just hate how much he’s hurting the team with his awful hitting. And my opinion of him last year and the early part of this year was that he’s a useful player, but that he just isn’t good enough to be a starting first baseman. I’ve long said that he’s a decent bench player. He’s just not more than that. This season, however, his play has been that of a player who isn’t good enough to be in the majors. Joel, you haven’t affected my opinion of Ross.
...Don’t make stupid comments about Gload that show that you don’t have a clue about the game though…..

You defend a .262/.313/.333 hitting first baseman as a good player and yet you still have the temerity to say that you “know about the game” and others don’t. Joel, you are incessantly bizarre. Keep up the good work.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

ok.......

“I just hate how much he’s hurting the team with his awful hitting.”— I suppose you think that Butler’s 6 jacks are helping the team?...Maybe Teahan’s 10 HR’s are?...maybe Gordon’s .245 avg. and lack of RBI are helping?...I can go on for about the whole roster… I guess that it’s Ross Gload’s fault that the Royals are one of the worst teams in the big-leagues?... Just like a wise-soul told me…”Don’t hate the player, hate the manager who makes the lineup.”...It’s also pretty cool that you can give me a warning NYROYAL, you must feel like a big person?...You’re cool buddy.

Oh Joel

Everyone of those players you mentioned have a better OBP and SLG than Gload. Keep trying, Joel! :)

What good would it do?

Hey hey

G-Load’s LD rate this year isn’t actually that bad. 22.6%, DOWN from 19% last year. His BABIP is .282, down from .301 last year.

Joel, you know you’re my man, but here’s a case where stats actually might back you up. Maybe Russ is worth keeping on the roster as a 25th man. He can almost hit like a backup cornerman, maybe his defense justifies him being there. Let’s check in with our good friend, Fernando Vina School of Linguistics:

RZR (Revised Zone Rating—the # of balls hit into a fielder’s zone that are successfully converted into an out): Gload is 20th out of the 26th first basemen who qualify. Link here. Side note…Billy Butler has a better RZR (.706) than Gload (.699).

OOZ: (Out of Zone—the number of balls hit outside of a fielder’s zone that are converted into outs): Gload is 26th….behind the defensive wizards Miguel Cabrera and Jason Giambi. Among players with at least 500 innings at first base, only Matt Jacobs is worse. But let’s compare him to his main competition, Billy Butler.

Gload 615 innings, 13 out-of-zone plays = 47.3 innings per ooz play
Butler 163 innings, 4 out-of-zone plays = 40.75 innings per ooz play

Range Factor: This is the only place where Gload scores significantly better than Butler, but at the same time, Gload’s numbers are STILL slightly below-average at first base. And Gload’s numbers are not anything than Shealy hasn’t produced at the major league level. :

Hmmm… well, OK, he’s not quite as good as Billy “Second Coming of Keith Hernandez” Butler this year, so, I dunno.

Keep ‘em comin’ pal.

G-LOAD FOR PRESIDENT!

He isn't a completely different player this year from last year

I’m sure there’s been some bad luck. With average luck maybe his .646 OPS would be more like .700. If true, that would mean that instead of spectacularly awful, he’s merely a very bad first baseman. Possibly still a useful bench player. Not very useful, but a little useful.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Joel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So awesome to see you, man. I just knew you’d be back. You’re still full of fire for your estranged lover Gload too. Dude, you need help. Look, I’ll just give you brutal truth (but, only because I like you because you’re crazy). Gload sucks, bro. The dude couldn’t hit his way out of a wet paper bag. He’s a decent defensive player, but who gives a shit about that. He can’t hit in a position where cats are expected to hit. I met the guy, dude. He’s not even a nice person. I just can’t root for a guy that can’t even become only in the top five worst hitting firstbaseman in the league and isn’t even a cool guy. Your love is misplaced. But, let me tell you a secret. Put your money (and man-love) to this Mexican kid, Joakim Soria. He’s got some promise and will be known as a great pitcher soon. Then, your man-love will be justified. Joel, one last piece of advice. Don’t tell people at this site things that are ridiculous. They aren’t stupid. They will show you otherwise. Good luck buddy. Choose a worthwhile hero.

Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.

I'd rather Joel just put his man-love on Gload

"I've seen Gload line-out about 30 times right at an outfielder or infielder"

No, Joel; you haven’t. Thus far this season, Ross has “lined out” a total of 17 times. In fact, on those rare occasions when Ross does hit a line drive, he’s doing quite well; he’s hitting .667. He is not, in fact, “lining the ball right at people.” Rather, he is “not lining the ball enough.”

It’s sad enough you’re this delusional about Ross, but when you have to make shit up to support your argument which anyone with a brain can go look up and see you’re either (a) wrong or (b) just lying, it slips into just plain pathetic.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

Joel I have never conversated with you that I know of but you are off on a wild tangent defending IchiGload. I don’t care what Billy is or was hitting he should get all the playing time at 1b if for nothing more than development.

It is pretty clear that this post is nothing more than a tongue lashing at NY. Just for that I must give it a REC.

Don’t some message boards have “karma” points? Yyou can +/- karma each user. Doesn’t necessarily get someone kicked off, but is pretty funny. I guess it can devolve into an immature popularity contest, though. As opposed to the totally mature, rational discussion that dominates here…

Also, is there some way to see who is recommending what posts/comments without going to each individual user’s list of actions and scanning through it? If it isn’t going to be private, I wish the list could at least be viewed per message/comment. Petition! DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!

It would be better if he could keep himself to inane Gload posts

His once a month “Gload is really great and you guys just don’t get it” post are fine. They are bizarre and baseless, but entertaining. When he reacts to the comments he gets by creating one or more new fanposts which are just about insulting posters, that’s too much. (this is at least his second post entitled “NYROYAL…”) And it was that sort of thing that got him banned twice before. (Steve Philips is his third username after getting the first two banned).

This is insane

Here’s the deal. A lot of our players are complimentary players while they develop into good solid everyday major leaguers. That has to happen for us to be successful. Gload is just that:

A complimentary player.

(not sarcastic even though it’s in the sarcastic font. That was just to emphasize it and give it the big booming voice from above.)

He is not young however. The veterans on our team CANNOT be complimentary players for this team to be successful. They have to be LEADERS, CONTRIBUTORS, and mostly for this team, BETTER THAN AVERAGE. When a veteran is putting up the numbers that the young complimentary players are, that’s when you have a team that is…... The Royals. That is why the young guys are allowed to be complimentary players and the veterans are not. The young guys are still developing and learning how to play the game. Their job is to compliment the veterans. That is why GMDM has been signing veterans in the offseason. Meche, Mahay, Guillen.

And Gload. Gload was at a crossroads in his career. It was time to put up or shut up. He was given a chance to be a successful big time contributor. He had shown that he might be able too. But in order for the Royals to be successful, GMDM has to bring in players who raise the bar. Gload did that but he is no longer doing that. It is time to bring in a new guy and let Gload move onto a team where he can be what he is: a complimentary player. He is a great guy, good player, but not what we can build on anymore. What he has done for the organization won’t be forgotten. He has raised the bar to the Gload level of play. Just like when you recruit in college, you go for guys that are better than you have. This is the only way to make your team better. So Gload has set the bar to the Gload level, we now have to bring in a first baseman who will raise it past the Gload level until it is time to replace him.

Gload did a decent job but is no longer doing the job he was brought in to do… the only problem is we don’t have a player who is ready to take over that position. But that is changing with our first basemen in the minors. Shealy, Kiaahui, Jason Taylor. They are starting to become prospects.

It’s also time for some of the other guys to start transitioning into more than complimentary players.

DeJesus has started that.
Teahan is trying but needs to do something in the second half.
Gordon has a little more time.
Buck is doing it with his leadership of the pitching staff.
Bannister has a little more time.
Soria has done it.
Hochevar has just gotten here.
Aviles has started that.
Davies still has some time but is on the backside of that time.
Nunez is doing that.

This is just where we are as Royals fans. In the transition phase. I’m sorry this post got long, but it needs to be said. We need to continue signing guys that will fit our style of play and getting rid of the peices that do not. We are on the right path.

GO ROYALS. LET’S POUND THE CHISOX AND GRIFFEY!

where I can find Buck’s 3-year history of GAMECALL+?

by Home Run Tony Cogan on Aug 1, 2008 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

No Idea

But you know, a couple times a game Buck jus totally blows the pitch calling to a batter. For example, last night in Orlando Cabrera’s third at bat. Pitch sequence:

Curve inner half… foul ball.
Curve inner half/supposed to be away…. foul ball. He is now set up for either real soft away away or hard up.
Curve away off the plate 8 inches…. foul ball. A good pitch. Cabrera was obviously looking for the offspeed away by the way he lunged at that ball. Now we are set up to go hard on the inner third. That pitch will freeze him as it has in the past (as it does all the time).
Fastball away 10 inches off the plate. Took it. Still set up for hard stuff in as Cabrera lunged again.
Fast away. Foul ball. Cabrera dove so hard to the outside corner his back foot finished in the other batters box to keep his balance. He is still set up for the fastball in. Anything away would be stupid at this point. His perception has changed to the outside corner so the inside third in his mind’s eye will be way inside.
Offspeed away… Cabrera was fooled enough to were he just punched it… but he was diving away again. Result… single to right.

It drives me insane how we’ll have a hitter set up and then just not use it. And the guy does something like Cabrera did on this particular at bat.

Don't forget to send your broken maples to the US Forest Service.

The only way you can tell is to actually watch how hitters get set up and the pitches that are called. It’s tough enough to set hitters up but Buck usually does a good job. He just has those one or two a game that they don’t follow through on. Maybe it’s because they are trying to buck the system and go against common thinking? It never works though. But, I do like Buck behind the plate.
