From Yahoo!
The Braves optioned Jeff Francoeur to AA. It struck me as interesting that they would do this considering his stats, and then I thought it might be interesting to compare his stats to one of our favorites, Alex Gordon. I've included a comparison of 2008, RISP, and career stats for both.
I apologize in advance for the sketchy formatting, I'm a novice at putting these tables together.

I'm sure that Francouer needs to work on some things, but the stats aren't all that different except for BA and OBP. Gordon is having a better year, but Francouer has a stronger track record. I'm surprised he wouldn't get more leeway to work things out.
Lots of similarities between the two players, both 24 and both 1st round picks. I find it interesting that our guy is batting 3rd in the lineup while their guy gets sent down.
I want to be clear, I'm not making necessarily any value judgments out of this data at all, and I'm not advocating that Gordon be sent down. I actually think Gordon has grown over the past month or so, and it's going to take some more time before we know for sure what we've got. Anyone have thoughts on this comparison?
On a related note, would DM be interested in trading for this guy? I don't really like his OBP but he has shown some nice power and the ability to drive in runs, and is still very young. No idea of what it would take, probably at least one good pitching prospect or a major league pitcher and a position player. Would Bannister + Teahen do it? What about Davies (ha ha)? Perhaps they would sell low on him. If I were in their shoes, I wouldn't trade him unless I could get a lot in return, but you never know.
