Game 89 Ope Thread - Royals (39-49) at Rays (54-32)

Kansas City Royals at Tampa Bay Rays, Jul 6, 2008 1:40 PM EDT

Rays envy.

Not only have their position prospects eclipsed ours, so have their pitching ones as well. Like today's starter, James Shields (3.70 ERA).

The Royals counter with Luke Hochevar (4.91 ERA).

Treyball. Where finding more playing time for Joey Gathright and Tony Pena Jr. happens.

Thats what I do.

Actually I’m a supervisor for lifeguards down here in TX.

I feel, perhaps,

irrationally good about today’s game. Then again, that might stem from looking at the bottom half of the Rays line-up…it’s not that much better than our own chaff. And I think Pena is, correctly I think, in the line-up to track down Hochevar’s groundballs.

That's my main

issue…Gordon, Butler, and Aviles all out at once? Pick two out of three, Trey, and let one guy DH.

by NHZ on Jul 6, 2008 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

aviles....

eh…not much of a problem with him sitting in favor of pena today, but butler and gordon should really never have days off…and billy’s had at least 2 in the past week

Yes,

Butler at DH would make sense. Guillen in left, DDJ in center.

Over/Under on Runs Scored today 8.5

Vegas line lay -230 on TB…Don’t know if you guys bet much but those are big odds when you consider the pitching matchup

Billy at worst will be Sean Casey jr.

sweeney PH ed in 2006

http://www.royalsreview.com/story/2007/7/10/23532/0846

Of the glories of the Royals in the All-Star game, our praise can have no end.

Since 1990 our Royals have gone 0-8 at the plate and failed to appear in four games. Five times, the only Royal involvement was a single at-bat.

Here’s the year-by-year breakdown:

2007: Gil Meche named, did not play.
2006: Mark Redman named, did not play.
2005: Mike Sweeney named, struck out as a pinch-hitter in the 7th.
2004: Ken Harvey named, struck out as a pinch-hitter in the 3rd.
2003: Mike MacDougal and Sweeney named, neither appeared.

2005

year that I stopped giving a shit about the all star game.

Alternatively, first year I started caring about the Royals. Funny how that goes.

God I love the Mexicutioner
Ironically, the July 15 Midsummer Classic will be played at Yankee Stadium, where on June 7 Soria suffered his only blown save and loss. Other than that, he’s been spectacular.

His secret?

“No fear,” Soria said. “It’s important to be like that.”

Kansas City's not ready for prime time players

2010 definitely can’t come soon enough

Billy at worst will be Sean Casey jr.

How much longer with Peralta??

not in this game….but in the organization?

he’s obviously not getting it done at the major league level…...do we banish him to omaha again?

i never thought i’d be wanting to see musser and ryan z braun

At least we won't get shut out.

This is how a good offense can dismantle any team. The Rays aren’t even playing there top weapons and they are killing us. Today it is tough to keep that glass half full.
