Banny and some other thoughts
Has anyone else noticed that the last two outings Banny has said that he has been more or less content at least with his last two outings. I remember against the Cards he said that there was not one pitch he would take back. Then when Hillman mentions Banny he says he didn't pitch very well. What is going on here? Is the coaching staff not communicating what they want the pitchers to do? I know Banny has struck out more people this year but he looks alot worse this year than last too me at least. If I recall correctly James predicted him to be 10-10 with a 3.85. He doesn't seem likely to finish with a 3.85. Seems like it will be closer to a 5 or so.
I see Shealy was 4-5 today. His average is up to 280. I think we really need to bring him up here and start the rest of the year at first. When he isn't at first he can DH and Billy can play 1st. Gload needs to find a permanent place on the bench. He is not part of the long term plans and as such should not be receiving so much PT. Send down Pena if someone claims him then good for him.
I understand Brian Fuentes may be going to TB soon for Wade Davis or some other highly regarded prospect. Boston is also in the market for left handed bullpen help. The Cubs also only have one lefty in there pen. Could you see us getting Lowrie for Mahay? What do you think we could get for Mahay from the Cubs? I know Mahay is doing very well for us this year but he isn't a long term solution for us either so why not maximize our return on investment and get someone who could be part of our long term plans. Just some thoughts after another butt kicking from the Rays...

Well...
Buster Olney just wrote that the Royals have no immediate plans to trade Mahay, and that Gobble is up for grabs at a cheaper price…
I can see Gload being dealt pretty soon. He’s a hell of a fit on a team that could use a Defensive replacement @ 1st in the 7th or 8th inning because he still can swing the bat a little bit if he gets a PA in late innings. If/When that happens, I think Shealy should be called up, but I think you have to trade Gload first. If you throw him on the bench for a few weeks, his trade value might drop.
Bannister is a complete mystery to me. I have no idea what to expect from him each time he goes out…...

They have Greg Dobbs to play 1B
The Mets were looking at reserve 1B last week. The Yanks could use a backup 1B.

Greg Dobbs is hardly great shakes
but Gload stinks.

Phillies...
I wouldn’t take Ryan Howard out fo the game unless I was up big. He’s adequate @ D and is game changing on O.
I was thinking the Rays maybe, w/ Carlos Pena @ 1st would be a possible fit?
Maybe back to the White Sox?

i too am sick of banny's bullshit...
i dont care how deep and philosophical you think you are. If you give up 7 runs, you sucked. I dont care about the wind blowing out. I dont care if you got beat on ‘good pitches’. You gave up 7 runs. Either keep your thinking mans bullshit to yourself or man up and say, ‘I sucked today’.

He’s in his 2nd season. Calm down

so that makes it alright that he thinks he pitched well after giving up 7 runs?
19 years old, 28 years old, 36 years old…7 runs isnt good

Could Jimmy Gobble + something = Matt Murton?

Not seeing it unless he plays SS

Because Teahen sucks against LHP
And Murton doesn’t.

yeah...i just dont think that minimal upgrade from Teahen to Murton is worth giving anything up...
and from everything ive read, teahen is a much better fielder

Murton's career line: 295/363/450
Teahen: 270/337/425
Murton would instantly become the second or third best hitter on the team.
Besides, Murton should replace Gload in the lineup, preferably with Guillen to DH.

in wrigley...OPS+ 106 to 99....advantage, but not a huge advantage....
and yes, if thats the plan, he helps us out…but he would likely take one of our better pitching prospects which would not be worth it

You might want to actually check the park factors for Wrigley and the K
by Gopherballs on Jul 7, 2008 2:04 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
am i wrong that wrigley is a slight better hitters park?...
i know the K is around 103….regardless….it still holds true, theres not a significant enough difference to justify giving up anything of real value….and the 106 to 99 is park adjusted…

Wrigley = 104
The difference between 106 and 99 OPS+ over the course of a full season is about 10 runs, or one win. That is a significant difference. But again, the difference would be between Murton and Gload, not Murton and Teahen.
Murton would be a nice target because he would not cost a frontline player or prospect.

could we flip mahay and only mahay you thinK? More or less?

It depends on what the Cubs want
Reliever Scott Proctor was traded for Wilson Betemit at last year’s deadline, so Mahay is in the ballpark in terms of value but not necessarily a fit with the Cubs.

yea...
I was thinking some sort of a platoon system…
vs RHP
LF – Murton
RF – Teahen
DH – Guillen
vs LHP
LF – Murton
RF – Guillen
DH – Olivo
So in other words, it turns into an Olivo/Teahen platoon which is pretty nice, no? Teahen’s OPS vs RHP is about .800, while Olivo’s OPS vs LHP is about .850.
Of course, it would require our manager allowing Butler to play first base…

Are you factoring inthe 2-4 runs a game the Royals would lose playing Butler instead of Gload at first?
OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

It's not really...
Gobble is a LOOGY. Upgrading our LOOGY won’t help much at all.

Gil Meche's reaction to an outing where he went 5 1/3 and gave up 2 runs....
“we won. Yeah, I want to win games. No doubt about it, BUT THE WAY I PITCHED, IT COULD HAVE BEEN REALLY BAD”
now contrast that to Bannys reactions to absolutely awful starts.

Do you think Banny doesn't really understand what is good and bad about his starts?
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Perhaps
There’s a lot that goes into evaluating an outing: his stuff, his control, his execution of his gameplan and more. I’m sure he was content with some, perhaps many of the aspects of his game in those outings. Of course he was not happy with the results. I don’t think we can get a good read on his evaluation of an outing from a few small quotes.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

meche gave up 2 runs and it was very apparent that he was pissed off with his outing

Are we really still talking about this?
Are we really still talking about whether Bannister’s post-loss quotes were good enough? Do you think he’s happy with poor results? Do you think he doesn’t care about how well he pitches? Is anyone actually suggesting that?
I think fans want to hear lots of emotional talk from a player after a bad outing. “I really let my team down. I stunk out there. It’s on my shoulders. God I hate losing. I hate letting my team down. I won’t let that happen again.” Bannister isn’t a rah-rah guy like that. Most baseball players aren’t. He’s a smart guy who knows what he did right and what he did wrong. He’s not going to put on a show to placate fans.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

alright, but when theres a similar reaction
to similar shitty outings….not enough adjustments being made or not the right ones. it leads me to believe that maybe he does believe what he says which is what is problematic.
