Johnny Giavotella starts strong

Star-divide

Johnny G (the Royal's interesting pick in the 2008 second round) has transitioned well from D-! to low A ball in Burlington. He's not showing a lot of power but he's hitting .326 with a .384 OBP, .382 SLG, .766 OPS. through 22 games. It's a small sample size but I remember the scouting report said he was a contact hitter that didn't strike out much (13ks to 8bbs). I couldn't figure out how to format his stats on this post, but the link to his stats are here

Not bad

Thanks for the update. I love this guy because he’s from New Orleans and he’s Italian (the grittiest of all baseball ethnicities)

Needs a “Little Guido” tag, though. Like plate discipline, we need to start teaching nicknaming early if its going to take effect.

OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

Quite frankly, I don't much like this start

A college player should be doing better in low-A ball .326/.384/.382. But it’s still early and he’s adjusting. He’s actually warming up a bit after a really poor first week or two. I’m really hoping he’s warm up continues.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I think he's doing fine...

I’d like to see a tad more power, but other than that…

He’s also hitting like .420 in his last 10 if I remember correctly…

That depends, though.

How much wood-league experience does he have? (I honestly don’t know.)

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

So, one short season a year ago.

He’s going to have some adjustment to wood, which means either he’s just small-sampling his way to mediocrity, or there will be improvement.

terribly disappointed when they picked him...after the other stud or bust types....

i dont want a guy who has in his scouting report the words ‘david eckstein’...even if it also includes pedroia…just not interested…

TPJ...you're dead to me

But it also included "gritty" and/or "grinder" IIRC!

G-Man!

I like those numbers in the pitching friendly Midwest League. Very encouraging.

frankly,

I was surprised he started at Low A.

I would expect a 2nd round pick coming from the college ranks to be able to handle High A out of the gate.

I would think he would merit that promotion soon (at least I hope so)

Only problem

Jeff Bianchi and Kurt Mertins

And their both putting up solid numbers especially since it’s a pitchers league.
