Game 110 Open Thread - White Sox (60-47) at Royals (50-59)

Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals, Aug 1, 2008 8:10 PM EDT

If the Sox outfield is really gonna be Quentin-Griffey-Dye the Royals should consider anything less than five doubles/triples a missed opportunity.

Your pitching matchup is Vazquez (4.73 ERA) versus Hochevar (5.38 ERA).

Seitzer on his 6 for 6 day

yeah, those orange seats and turf look much more in retrospect.

I don’t know if we’ll have a retrospective for Joe Randa’s six hit game in 2009

by BHWick on Aug 1, 2008 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

Seitzer was slightly off

Schiraldi pitched the entire bottom of the 8th, giving up a hit to Pecota, a hit to Balboni (RBI), striking out Jones and Owen, giving up a hit to Lonnie Smith (RBI), Seitzer got a GR Double (RBI), and Brett hit a home run. Then Tartabull struck out.

He got 6 hits off of 4 pitchers with two homers.

Seitzer hit .395 with 6 HR in August 1987.

Randa hit 6 in the 26-5 game, which had this debut for Luis Urdaneta:

URDANETA REPLACED JOHNSON (PITCHING); DeJesus walked [D. Brown scored, Castillo to third, Gotay to second]; Berroa singled to center [Castillo scored, Gotay to third, DeJesus to second]; Nunez singled to center [Gotay scored, DeJesus scored, Berroa to third]; Stairs singled to left [Berroa scored, Nunez to second]; Randa singled to shortstop [Nunez to third, Stairs to second]; Pickering singled to right [Nunez scored, Stairs to third, Randa to second]; GERMAN REPLACED URDANETA (PITCHING);

Correction

Lino Urdaneta.. whose ML ERA is now at 63.00 after 1 inning with New York and 0 with Detroit

by BHWick on Aug 1, 2008 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I was at that game.

The Red Sox RF lost Seitzer’s 6th hit in the sun. I remember the scoreboard announcing it was the Royals first 6-hit game since 1969.

Bill Pecota hit his first MLB triple in the game.

He Should Teach

That skill to TPJ.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

He knew which breaking pitches to ignore and

which breaking pitches to ground out to shortstop on

I wonder if Hillman's hero was Tony Muser

At least Buddy was an actual player.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

Just in time!!

For the game to end. The site kept wanting to mess up for a few hours then.

Points:
1) DDJ once again shows his great baserunning ability by turning his ankle going back to first on a pick-off throw. He played a few innings on it, but it probably stiffened up on him after a while and he was replaced.

2) I’m hoping Grudz’s leg isn’t broken, but I’m thinking it is. Looked like an inversion of the ankle (where it turns in on you, instead of rolling under you). Usually when it’s an inversion of the ankle, your leg breaks (Kenyon Martin when he was a senior at Cincy).

3) We are a professional team that cannot get down a bunt. Seriously. How ridiculous is that? While the idea of bunting in that situation is also deserving of criticism, the fact that we cannot execute in those situations is the antithesis of what Hillman preached in spring training.

4) Ditto for those pop-ups. One person call it….everyone else get out of the way. Call it early for all I care. Just don’t break each other’s legs and look like the second coming of Ken Harvey out there.

How about

not bunting on 3-1 when the batter has a good eye?

or is loading the bases with 0 outs down two just too much for Buntzilla Hillman to bare?

The Availability Of

Walk-in hose repair is pretty much how I judge the quality of life in a city.
