Top pitching picks update

Second round pick Michael Montgomery has pitched well this summer in Arizona. He's 2-1 with a 1.76 ERA, 24 ks to 7 bbs in 30.2 innings. Tyler Sample has struggled with control 24 walks in 19 innings but he's also missing a lot of bats (27ks). His last two outings have been strong with 10 IP, 10 ks, 0 bbs. and 0 ERs.

It’s good to see Montgomery doing well. He looked like a solid pick when we took him and he’s lived up to it. He’s got nono stuff in the Arz league at times.

Sample has a huge arm. He just has to repeat his delivery which could be tough for him at 6’7” and still growing. When he learns to pitch to contact he’ll become a beast.

Put 4th rounder Melville right in with those guys and we have a great group of HS pitchers we drafted this year. I think more than one of these guys will make it to KC.

When will 5th rounder John Lamb be cleared to throw in games?

Sample is "struggling" with his control

The way Louie Anderson is “struggling” with his weight. Yow, those are some big walk numbers!

He's 18.

He doesn’t know how to pitch. He doesn’t know his own mechanics or what it takes to have good mechanics. It’s good to have him where he is so we can work with him right now. I’d like to see Montgomery move up a level and pitch two games towards the end just so he gets some experience at another level.

His numbers are video game hilarious

42 1/3 minor league innings. 48 strikeouts. 128 walks. 17.22 ERA.

He makes Colt Griffin look like Greg Maddux.
