After NY 15, Royals 6: The Yankees are destroying Ewing Kauffman's legacy and memory.
After seeing the Royals playing uninspired baseball yesterday, and seeing the Royals fail to fulfill my dream of seeing them beat the Yankees for the 1st time since '99, I have come to this conclusion: George and Hank Steinbrenner are destroying Royals founder/owner Ewing Kauffman's memory and legacy by always bullying the team Mr. K founded in 1969.
Want to know some facts?
1. Since 1994 (the first season since Mr. K's death on August 2nd, 1993), the Royals are 36-91 against the Yankees.
2. Since 1994, the Royals have won only 2 season series against the Bronx Bombers, while there has been 3 splits. New York has won 10 season series, including 2 season series sweeps.
3. Now that Joe Torre's gone, let's not forget that New York was 76-24 against the Royals during his career as Yanks' manager.
4. I also want to mention that the CEO of Wal-Mart, Royals owner David Glass should give Brian Bannister a job at Walmart instead of pitching against the Yankees next time they meet again.
5. Also, the Royals' record against the Yankees, especially at Yankee Stadium is just as worse as Mr. Glass' store (Walmart) selling Chinese-made products:poor quality.
Even though we split the series with New York at 5-5, I am disgusted with yesterday, and I have a few things to say:
1. The Steinbrenners are laughing at Mr. K's memory and legacy
2. Mr. Glass, will you please sell the team back to Avron Fogleman, the man who owned the Royals (along with Mr. K) when the team won the World Series back in '85?
We miss you, Mr. K, 15 years later, and hopefully the Royals will return to glory again.
Thanks for reading this post, and remember: at least we did better against the Yankees than last year!

But, hey, 1 great thing happened that Royals Nation can be proud of when it comes to Yankee Stadium:
Game 3, 1980 ALCS, Royals whipped Yankees’ arse! AL Champs. Enjoy the Emerald Isle and your honeymoon!

Dude?
Fogelman?
didn’t he go broke when he co-owned the team?
I don’t even know if he’s in real estate, but I don’t think that’s any more stable now.

Avron Fogelman
Was an abject disaster IIRC. I want to say he’s the main reason Schuerholz left for Atlanta. Fogelman was supposed to be the successor to Ewing, but his bankrupcy kinda precluded that.

My biggest gripe from the weekend:
Hillman refusing to use Soria in extra innings Saturday.
Yes, I realize we probably still would have lost, since we can’t hit. Still, knowing the next day is going to be Banny vs Meche (probable loss), and knowing Monday is going to be an off day, and knowing Soria has been well rested the last two weeks, how in the world can you not let him pitch a couple of innings (like Rivera did!) before you turn to the bullpen fodder (Peralta, Fulchino)?

I watched the last few innings of that game
and I couldn’t help but wonder if Hillman had fallen into the trap that other visiting team managers sometimes do in extra-inning games—avoid using your closer until your team takes the lead in the top of an inning, then send him in. I have a hard time thinking that we would not have seen Soria in that situation.
And in Peralta’s defense, he did pitch fairly well. I wouldn’t have wanted to stick him in there, either, but it is hard to complain about two scoreless innings being handed in by a low-expectations reliever.
But we still lost…and since I was watching the game from the Free State Brewery in Lawrence, it made it all the easier to reload on good beer to drown my Royals sorrows in.

I had thought about that too
but then I started thinking about how if we did magically take the lead, then who would close the game out? I was on your side in the 10th of that game but then once I started thinking about it, I liked saving Soria for the save. It would be a lot worse to take the lead and then lose it the next inning then to lose how we did.

A bit melodramatic
We aren’t the only team to have trouble against the Yankees. And this is not the first time the Royals have struggled against a certain opponent. I believe we lost our first twenty games or so against the Baltimore Orioles. Did that embarrass Ewing Kauffmna?

But A-Rod's a choker!
And the Royals have Jose Guillen AND defensive whiz/relief pitcher/clutch DH Tony Pena, Jr!

Yes, just how well did we do against the Yankees
when Mr. K was alive? We won a few (1980 ALCS, Pine Tar game), but we certainly lost our share then as well (1976, 1977, 1978).
This team has two reliable starting pitchers. They both did a great job against the Yankees over the weekend. Yesterday was an embarrassment, but then again, so have most of Banny’s starts been lately. Nothing to do with Glass vs Kauffman. (And just for the record, I have seldom had any trouble with a Wal-Mart bought product.)
The Brain needs to work on using his mental telekinesis powers to control pitches. Ewing Kauffman wouldn’t have been able to make that happen either.

"how well did we do against the Yankees when Mr. K was alive?"
141-160, going all the way back to 1969.
Sarcasmâ„¢. It's the new gravy.

But to recap the KC-NY series:
5-5 in ’08 compared to 1-9 last year, plus we beat the Yanks 2 out of 3 at the K! I guess you can call it a successful season series against New York, all things considered. Hopefully, we can win more against the Yanks in 2009.

The Yankees sort of seem to realize they need to retool
If the Royals fortunes continue to slowly rise, .500 or better isn’t out of he picture next year.
Of course, if the Yankees (with Abreu, Giambi, and others off the books) ban CC and Teixeira in the offseason…
