How can Dayton Moore get himself out of the regrettable Jose Guillen situation without just up and admitting it was a really bad idea?
Joe Sheehan: Say nothing, make sure Guillen plays every day for the rest of the season, and go to Las Vegas with a league-average outfielder on a two-year, $24-million contract available for trade. Be willing to take back a little bit less on the deal and spend a couple million to be done with this.... Afterwards, make better decisions."
"Tony (Royalville): Is Adam Dunn a solution to the lack of power in KC this winter? And would it be a good signing?
Joe Sheehan: Good god, no. The Royals have a massive logjam on the corners as it is, and as much as they could use Dunn's offense, signing a player who adds to that is more problem than solution.... Lots of Royals questions today..."

A log jam?
I’m not seeing it. Unless he considers Teahen as part of it, and I certainly don’t. Basically if DM did what JS suggests with Guillen, we’d have no legit corner outfielders on the roster.

Ok, stupid question here
Is Sheehan’s answer to question #2 sarcasm? It seems like from the “as much as they could use Dunn’s offense, signing…” he’s serious. But he couldn’t be serious, could he? Logjam on the corners? The Royals have zero league average corner OFers. So was this supposed to be obvious sarcasm? Or do I not know what logjam means?
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
I'm with you (both)
I thought other people might have some insights here, hence the posting. The more I think about it, the second answer has to be sarcasm. Anyone else more familiar with Sheehan’s style than I?

He's not above sarcasm, but I would think that he'd usually say something which gives it a bit of a wink to make sure we know he's not serious
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

It's not sarcasm.
It is, however, Sheehan’s blind refusal to ever seriously consider anything whatsoever having to do with the Royals, which I think more than anything else is his twisted attempt to counter-balance Rany.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

Log jam
it must be the toilet kind.
He is just saying what the Royal GM’s of the past have been thinking.

Every organization has a "logjam" at the corners
There are multiple players at the corner positions in the majors, AAA, AA, etc. But it’s only really a “logjam” if you have more good players than positions for them to play. As Sheehan should know (and of course he must know), the Royals are not exactly burned with that problem.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
I like how there were two royals questions.. and he said that was alot.
Guess 2 is just 2 too many for him
Dunn
I have kinda thought all along that for some reason signing Dunn would be a bad decision. The only reason it would make sense is if you put him at left or right the next 4 years. And then you have blocked anybody that is coming up (or over in a trade, probably over in a trade) for a bad outfielder. He hits bombs, I get it. But its not like that has carried the Reds to the playoffs or anything like that. He’s just not part of the solution. We need to be trading veterans or minor league pitching for young hitting talent, preferably really near major league ready. We don’t need to be signing 30 year olds for lots of money. That’s how we ended up with Jose Guillen. Sure, Dunn might help us squeak out 5 more games a year. But he (or any other high priced vet)isn’t going to help us get in contention regularly. I believe that you don’t sign high priced vets when you are at 70 wins trying to get to 80. You sign them when you are at 83 wins trying to get to 90.
That’s just me.

I think
The Reds lack of success has less to do with Dunn and more to do with their inability to field a decent pitching staff.

Or hire competent managers
(and, until this year, Genearl managers)

i understand
That’s not the main reason i don’t want us signing dunn. It really doesn’t have much to do with Dunn as it does all high priced free agents.
