Game 126 Open Thread - Royals at Indians

Kansas City Royals at Cleveland Indians, Aug 20, 2008 7:05 PM EDT

One of the best things about not being in the U.S. right now?

Complete separation from all coverage of the Little League World Series as well as the non-stop commercials for it with that annoying "My Sweet Love" song.

In other battle for 4th place news...

Ryan with yet another mention about TPJ not being in the starting lineup...in pre-game show...

to “prove that he can be the starting SS.” He seemed bummed about it, almost as if he wants him to get one last chance in Sept to prove he’s not the man for the job. He tried to equate it to playing Butler at 1B to see what he can do there.

umm TPJ played SS for how many months of consecutive ineptitude?

how much has butler played 1B consecutively?

i think it's a must

knowing our luck though, he’d come to kc, half his homers would turn into warning track outs, he’d lose patience in our lineup and end up hitting .210/.330 with 19 homers

Guillen's OBP coming into this game

was .289. He’s failed to reach base twice thus far. Whee. Also, he has taken 17 walks and K’ed 85 times. I’m not one to harp on high K numbers for guys who can work the count, but a 5:1 ratio is pretty frigging ugly.

cfizzle, i use a hybrid of gamecast and mlb.com's Gameday

because Gameday shows the pitches’ speed and location better, but i try to look at Gamecast for where and how the ball is hit (and also for the stats, box score, etc). it involves a lot of clicking back and forth, but it think it’s worth it for the better pitch analysis.

It was really good.

It’s just hard not to get down on this team at this point. Watching these games is brutal, I think I’m going to have to take the next couple days off. The soria explosion really is the cherry on top.

This game really sucked. Winning with the great outing from Meche…and then losing with your two best relievers on the mound. Just ouch.

by NHZ on Aug 20, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh well. Maybe Greinke will have a good outing tomorrow.

Not that it even matters at this point. I really can’t believe how few brightspots there are on this team. Gordon continues to suck, Butler is sucking, Guillen is sucking, Hochevar is hurt, Bannister is sucking, Davies is Davies… Now Ramirez has been sucking somewhat, Soria looks human, etc. Ugly.

This team is not improving.

It is just as bad as it was last year and I am seeing nothing but regression from a lot of our youngsters. There are a few bright lights, but 2010 at this point is a liberal prediction for contention.

Unless we shitcan Hillman by 2010.

No, but he is a moron.

I explained that the talent isn’t there to contend in 2010, and decision making moves like the Jose Guillen signing scare me, but Hillman has made horrible decisions this year and I would like to see him gone before I give the vote of confidence to 2010.

I think this is a great first year for Trey. There’s nothing to work with, he just has to learn to run a team. He’ll have a bunch of things he’ll do different next year. Part of the learning curve.

Shoppack Home Run

Did no one else notice that ball was foul? I saw the replay on Sports Time Ohio and it clearly shows the ball hitting the handrail just to the left of the foul pole. Also were we getting squeezed in the 8th? It seems like Buck turned around and talked to the ump a lot that inning. It seemed we had to groove pitches just to get a strike.

 I’m so sad…
