Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

This is for the poster (sorry I forgot the name) that asked about him. The fanshot fell off the first page...didn't want you to miss my response. The link is to just to his stats.

First off...congrats from everyone at RR to your nephew for getting drafted.

The thing I like most about John is his projection. I read that he only threw about 83 in high school, but was up to around 90 this year. He's only 20 and has easy mechanics, and could throw even harder as his body continues to mature. Another tick or two in velocity could really put him on the map.

Also he's supposedly got a nice changeup (which if you've read my stuff before, I love that in a young pitcher) and a curve. I read somewhere where a scout compared him to John Rheinecker, although I certainly hope he turns out better than that!

Hope that answered your question...send good wishes from RR!

No problem. :-)

Looks like John is having another nice game…six scoreless innings with only three hits allowed!
