Just read it myself

OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

I know it

The Mahay thing was hardly a surprise, but I’m seriously bumemd that Alex is out. I was really looking forward to seeing if he could continue his good second half hitting. Hogwash.

This severly hurts our playoff chances

In all seriousness, this sucks because I also thought Gordon was starting to come around.

The article doesn't say (or I don't want to read it again)

how long is he likely to be out for? two weeks? four? the rest of the season?

OBPing .400 in the second half.

Jose Guillen is relieved, though. All he has to do is OPS over 1.2 again for the rest of the season, and he’ll have a chance to pass Grusz and Gordon in VORP, or at least come close!

The article says he'll be out for "weeks"

The number will be determined by lottery.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by NYRoyal on Aug 22, 2008 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And if he's on the DL

that would be at least until September 5th or 6th. Well, at least I’ll be back at school and drunk by then either way.

If Dayton were JP Riccardi

He’s be telling us Gordon is day-to-day, when he’s really out for the year.

For real

This really hurts. The team could go into full “tank mode” from here on out.

Not with Trey Hillman in charge

Although I’m beginning to think the Royals don’t just need Christians in charge, but Pentecostals.

it’s Faith Healers! Wheeeeeeeeee

The team might turn its approach around

Selfish, entitled, Gordon was sucking up the whole supply of plate patience.

That’s why he smirks all the time.

Gordon's brain:

“I have plate discipline and they don’t nyahahahaha.”

Gordon’s bat: (hits)

Gordon’s mouth: (smirks)

Gordon’s groin/hip flexor: (pulls, tears)

Fan base: We’re even MORE fucked than before!

You know, this is pretty much your fault

since you were the one who said “Gordon could be Eric Chavez without the injuries.”

The Royals didn’t even get the 3-4 seasons when Chavez was actually healthy and good.

Thanks a lot for the jinx.

A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

by NHZ on Aug 22, 2008 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Probably

Funny thing is, it might be me who jinxed it in my thoughts, since whenever I’d look at Alex’s splits, I’d think “Hey, Eric Chavez couldn’t hit lefties, either, and he was pretty freaking good there for a while.”

I know there’s no way he could have known, but with Chavez signed and then getting hurt after letting Tejada and Giambi go, and the As constantly rebuilding while the Cardinals and Angels keep winning, Billy Beane isn’t doing us many favors at the moment vs. Bissinger, et. al.

Hey now

Royals Review started it. I merely mentioned that Chavez was Gordon’s No. 1 PECOTA. You uttered the death sentence.

by Gopherballs on Aug 22, 2008 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You know,

rereading that thread, I think all three of us are partially guilty.

Oh well, Gordon has a long way to go before being considered injury prone.

Teahen at 3B?

That should be interesting. I’d honestly rather see German/Jason Smith. That’s right, I went there.

On the plus side

We just got closer to landing Stephen Strasburg.

Always gotta look at the bright side of life.

Isn't he thought of as the number one pick

right now by quite a few people with brains? Looking Landing keeps yelling “Strasburg ho” for some reason.

by NHZ on Aug 22, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, at this time he is being talked about as a potential #1 pick

Although, of course, much can change between now and then. And I don’t think we’ll quite get to MLB’s basement.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I agree

I wish I could get into that site

got to much else going to try and pretend I care about the Mariners (other than Courage, who rules, and Adrian Beltre, who is sort of like the Mariner’s John Buck, in a weird way that is hard to explain: basically: he isn’t that great, but he still rules. At least the Royals aren’t paying Buck 14 million a year or whatever it is).

But,anyway, “Strasburg ho” is pretty funny. “Straus-Ram” would be better, though.

Can we start calling Greinke “Zack-Ram,” especially since “Greinke and the Brain” makes us all choke up, and NYRoyal cry like a little giri?

So when we sent Davies to Omaha to begin the year, that burned his option year.

Don't worry, I just figured that out a couple weeks ago myself

At this rate, in the next 5-10 years I’ll start to understand arbritration, free agency, FA compensation.

After that, I can tackle tOPS+ and sOPS+.

Eventually, I’ll actually read carefully through the methodology section of the New Historical Baseball Abstract, instead of skimming the rankings for cool anecdotes.

Game thread?

Is this the defacto game thread?

Goldberg is interviewing Hosmer, who’s in town (he sent a ball into the water spectacular in BP). Hosmer has said “dream come true” three times now.

Also funny Goldberg asked him if he was intimidated hitting with major league hitters like Guillen, Gload and Gathright.

Hosmer managing not to laugh = 80 makeup

Although I see the Royals haven’t learned that 1st round pick hitter hitting jacks into the fountains = jinx.
