Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Dan Cortes

watched him pitch today here in Tulsa. Went 6 gave up 1 er on 4 hits with 4bb and 4so. He is now 9-4 with a 3.98 ERA. My question is where do you start him next year? Omaha or back with NWA? He has great stuff there is no doubt about it. But the walks are concerning. Today's were mostly 4-0 or 4-1 walks. But he got at least 2 double plays that I can recall so he certainly minimized the damage.

I'd start him in AAA, but I don't think you can go wrong here

I think he’s ready for AAA, but he clearly still has his control to work on, so he could start the season in AA. I don’t think he’s going to go to the PCL and dominate right away, but I think he’s ready for that level of competition. FWIW, J.J. Piccolo (Asst. GM) said about a few weeks ago that Cortes is the only NWA pitcher who he is considering starting next year in Omaha, and that how he pitched in the last month in a stretch run would be telling. So far in August, Cortes is 3-0, 2.67 ERA, 29 k, 14 bb in 27 ip with only 2 HR. He’s getting more and more strikeouts with significantly fewer HR’s. The only problem has been the walks.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I would move him up to AAA.

Mostly because there is so much of a void in our AAA staff. All of our prospects may move up pretty fast because of the void at the top of the farm system and need to make more room at the bottom as I think we will continue to sign a lot of propects. He should not be brought up to the major leauges next year no matter what happens to our starting pitching, since he is being rushed to AAA to fill need.

Go Royals!

AAA

He moves up. He’s pitching really well late into the season. He had some ups and downs early but has finished strong. He should only have one or two more starts but I think he’ll be fine moving up a level. If you aren’t completely sure, start him at NWA and let him stay a month.

Is he doing winter ball or AFL?

I don't think they've announced who from the Royals is going to the AFL

Normally I’d be against a prospect who pitched a full season getting the extra innings from AFL or winter ball, but he did miss a decent chunk of time early in the season with an injury, so he could possibly use the AFL innings.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

That would be my preference.

Omaha

Right there in middle America. Get right to the heart of matters. It’s the heart that matters more.
