I bet you didn't know that I, too, can blockquote from books! This one is from Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut, part of a conversation between the main character, Kilgore Trout, and the truck driver he is hitchhiking with:

"I can't tell if you're serious or not," said the driver.

"I won't know myself until I find out whether life is serious or not," said Trout. "It's dangerous, I know, and it can hurt a lot. That doesn't necessarily mean it's serious, too."

I love Vonnegut's work, though I always take it as a bad sign when I find myself identifying with one of his characters. Such as Trout in this particular instance.

As the Royals continue to roll, they continue to work on fundamentals. Back in Spring Training, Trey Hillman established that the basics are what this team would focus on, doing the little things right.

Haha... here we go. I the "battle for suck" thread oc started, there were some minor

verbal “fisticuffs” about a lot of those guys. Here’s what “some” are saying

Davis: good power, questionable eye. Good for Texas, for now

Hurley: potential, but flyball/HR issues

Don’t know much about Feldman and Arias

But Salty, Ramirez, and Teagarden all together and you’d have one hell of a catcher

Davis might end up playing alot of 3b

if he gets his K rates under control, think of an infield of Smoak, Kinsler, Andrus and Davis

I know Hosmer has a shitload of upside

but part of me really wanted the Royals to take Smoak.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Andrus’ hitting. I know he’s young for the league, but is he supposed to be " good hitter for a shortstop" or do they think he has power potential?

by taking Hosmer over Smoak you got a great top end all potential bad ass GG 1B, but he wont make it up at best for 3 years…

davis can hit...no doubt about it...

36 homers b/w AA, AAA and MLB is impressive for a 22 yr old….but as a rangers fan you’ve seen a shit ton of great hitters…i’d be more excited about guys like neftali feliz though…oh and andrus…what i’d do to be able to have andrus in our system

Holland was a CC pitctcher that

gained 4 mph with a change in his mechanics and it all kinda clicked…..

The fact that his offspeed stuff is more advanced than Feliz and he is LH makes me giddy

Just depends

on 1) whether he’s open to extending in the offseason or next year and

2) what could be had in return. Most of us would trade anyoone for the right price. But that price would be pretty high for a young borderline ace with no injury issues like ProZack.

they showed a tiny bit of video and said that he got into it

with a fan who was “giving him the business” (Denny Matthews). Olivo went out to be peacemaker. I think they said that they essentially escorted him to right field

I obviously don’t know the situation. Fans can do what they want, I guess. A little courtesy would be nice, and smart, and adult. But who knows? In any case, any player has to be smart enough to just ignore or pretend to ignore that stuff. If you don’t, the press is going to rip you, even if you’re hitting like crazy…

I wish he was hitting well. But he isn’t. Sounds like there were other teams interested. Like I’ve said, if another team could take on the whole salary, that’s another FA possibly in the market. Yeah, it would probably leave a whole, but that can be filled, certainly by 2010 if need be. Imagine getting BOTH Dunn and Furcal…
