No More Gathright Please
I'm about to board a ferry back to the Irish mainland...
Joey Gathright is hitting .245/.300/.261. He has three extra-base hits this season. Three. In over 1200 Big League PAs Gator has only managed 37 extra-base hits.
He's a center-fielder, not a short-stop in the 1890s.
No more Gathright please.

I'd almost rather
hit my pitcher and DH for him (grienke?)…. but his speed is so enticing… stay away from the light……

Agree, but
I think the fault for this lies at the hands of the player development system. Maier gets hurt, Gordon gets hurt, so Teahen moves to 3B. ALL BECAUSE WE HAVE ZERO ORGANIZATIONAL DEPTH.
Seriously, you are supposed to have able replacements ready at AAA. Now, I’m not suggesting you have a capable backup for every single position, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS! They arguably have one capable replacement, and he has never played in the majors before (Kaaihue).
I think a good organization would, at a minimum, have a catcher, one middle infielder, one corner infielder, a centerfielder, a corner outfielder, two or three starters, and three or four relievers, ALL CAPABLE of replacing an injured major leaguer at the drop of a hat, and with only some dropoff in performance.
Just shows you how far away this organization still is.
2025, anyone?

I think you're overstating depth
No team is THAT deep. You should still expect a pretty significant drop off. If there was little drop off, then that player was wasting his time in AAA.

Only a little drop off, because
the players in KC already aren’t setting the bar all that high : )

I agree tha tthe organization is deep, but this is bad luck. If AAA OF replacementn, Maier, is hurt (I guess Gathright is actually the replacement in this case). Brayan Pena can come up. Duckworth is there for pitching. As a #6, he isn’t the end of the world. Shealy is at AAA. The Royals have 3 MIs (if not SSs) on th MLB roster who can also handle third.
The rash of injuries just exaggerates the lack of depth, but it isn’t quite that bad.

We saw Gathright,
leavin the game last night. He was already leaving the stadium as we were walkin back to our cars. Dude did not seem happy. He must dislike bein the number 1 Top Play.
I don’t know if you all have already talked about this or even saw it, I didn’t personally, but a guy I was sittin with said Guillen got into a tussle in between innings our in right field. He said the bullpen had to run out and break it up. But like I said, I didn’t see it, he could have been just messin with me.

But without Gathright how would ESPN pretend to cover Royals-Rangers games by shoehorning the final score into a top play?

I started out with a collection of his short stories "Welcome to the Monkey House"
I also really liked Slaughterhouse-5.

Vonnegut Is My
Favorite author; I’ve read virtually everything of his, and “Cat’s Cradle” is high on my list, but “Mother Night” is his finest. The movie wasn’t bad, but, as usual, it couldn’t live up to the book. It’s his only book with a moral; “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be very careful what we pretend to be.”

We're just following the Royals tradition of intentionally fielding the worst offense possible.
We could play German at 3B while Gordon rests, but instead we insist on getting Gathright in the lineup every night. We could call up Kila to play some 1B but insted we insist on (a) playing Gload every day and (b) keeping TPJ on the roster. And if you’ve forgotten, we’ve given TPJ 201 ABs this year.
It’s Royals tradition to take an already horrible offensive roster and maximize its ineptitude.

There Is No
Reason not to call up Kahuna and Shealyie for September and make them a platoon at 1B/DH. I wouldn’t mind seeing if Kahuna can play LF without embarrassing himself, either, but that should happen in Omaha.

There is a reason.
The reason is that the Royals have an issue who is the odd man out. Butler, Shealy, or Kila? This is Shealy’s shot at making the team without Kila on the same team competing for the same job. That will come later in Spring Training, but I think the Royals plans are to have Kila on the 40 man roster and have him in case Bulter or Shealy do not work out. (e.g. produce or else) If they have Shealy and Kila on the team, then there is no spot for Gload, and the Royals couldn’t have that. But I think this is short term, because Mous and Hosmer will apply plenty of additional pressure to these 3 soon enough. (I think Mous at third and Gordan moving to first is a real possibility here, so I guess its Gordan applying the pressure).
Go Royals!

If they are going to move Gordon for Mouse
(and I don’t think they should, at least not until after next year), it should be to a corner OF spot, for the very reasons you mention — jam at 1B (we hope), with Hosmer on the way. Not to mention the Alvarez redraft. Woo!

Sorry, it's my dumb obsession today
With the Alvarez contract “problem,” I got to daydreaming about him re-entering the draft and falling to the Royals… Won’t happen.
