Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Andrew Jones

I remember last offseason Jones was at or near the top of Dayton's free agent list. Well his first year in LA has been a disaster. Injuries, lack of production etc. I bet we could pick him up for very little this offseason. Would we be interested? I don't think it would take even a B prospect to get him. He will be in another contract year so you would think that he would have alot to play for. I know his average is bad this year and was pretty bad last year too, but I would take a chance on him. Another interesting player who could be avaliable would be Juan Pierre. But his contract has 3 years left after this I believe. He could do what Gator cannot. He hits for decent average, doesn't strike out a whole lot and steals alot of bases. Anyone interested in either of these 2?

Jones would be worse than JoGui with a little more mobility and Pierre would be a good player for us in our ballpark. Can he leadoff in the AL? That’s the bigger question.

Juan Pierre = FAIL

He is slightly better than Joey Gathright.

I am not much interested in Andruw Jones at all. Some writer (Jayson Stark?) speculated we could pick him up if LA ate some salary.

Juan Pierre is awful with no chance of improving

No, and Hell NO

I’m not sure which is which.

I’d take Jones for close to the minimum (and it cost a no more C prospect in a position of depth) if I thought the Royals could resist starting him until he showed something. I doubt that. Sorry, but “Dayton’s boys” (Gator, TPJ, Gload) get PT long after they should have been taken behind the barn and shot. Jones would definitely be one of the boys, given how Dayton tried to pursue him in the offseason (which I wasn’t necessarily opposed to — I thought he’d bounce back to at least 100 OPS+, but that’s not going to happen now, I’m not saying I’m smarter than DMGM…), and of course

As bad as Jones would be, Pierre would be even worse. I’m not sure I can even agree with Retro that he’s better than Gathright. He might hit a bit better, but gives it all back with his inferior defense. He’s like Johnny Damon with Tony Pena Jr.’s bat.

OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

agree across the board here

Pierre is terrible and we already have the same thing in gathright. i wouldn’t mind giving jones some PT if it doesn’t cost us too much 9whether low prospect or salary). his physical tools (aside from speed) have diminished some, but not enough to explain the performance drop. he could still be respectable. don’t really want him, but wouldn’t be upset to see us grab him

Andruw Jones

If we were a bit closer to contention, I think I would see the point in giving Jones a shot to prove he can still hit. We’re not, so I don’t. His contract is up at the end of next year, so I don’t see what we’d gain other than having happy memories of four months of Andruw Jones not playing all that well.

And watch DDJ sit for him

or have his offensive value diminished by playing on the corner.

He might hit better than Gathright?????

Are you serious…Pierre is a .300 career hitter. I am not saying i want him on my team but he is WAY better than Joey freakin’ Gathright. What a ridiculous statement to say he might be better or is slightly better.

Juan Pierre

Hasn’t hit .300 in four seasons. He’s hitting .277 with very few walks and virtually no power. Gathright is hitting .245 with very few walks and virtually no power. Pierre is slightly better.

I am not going to

get into an argument about who is better between 2 horrible players. But given the choice of the two i would rather have Pierre. What we should be talking about is why on earth Gload is still in a Royals uniform…..an absolute disgrace to the fans that support the team.

+1

Next time the Royals get a guy who has a bad rep, can they at least get one who can hit?

Soria for Matt Kemp plus a top prospect

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
