OT: Chad Johnson changes name
I would have thought that this was a joke, but it is not. I've seen it reported by many credible news sources. Chad Johnson has legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco.
Is it just me, or is he one of the most foolish, silly, goofy, clownish figures in all of professional sports? Not one of the worst guys. Not one of the biggest assholes. But certainly one of the most laughable goofs.

I think your description of him as being "silly" states it best
I don’t think his schtick is hurtful, some of it is a little clever. Mostly harmless

Definitely harmless
Like a clown. Someone trying to be funny (or cool), but in the end, he’s more to be laughed at than laughed with. Like many professional athletes, he’s fallen in love with himself and his own self image. He’s so deeply in love with himself that he doesn’t realize how foolish he looks in re-naming himself “Ocho Cinco.” Even more than he was before, he’s turned into a living joke, a walking caricature of himself. One of these days, he’ll grow up…maybe.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

That is pretty funny...
I have always loved Chad Johnson Ocho Cinco. Most of his TD celebrations are absolutely hilarious, and he is productive enough to get away with just about all of it. And, like you said, it isn’t like he is out getting himself in trouble off the field. He just is really good at marketing, and knows how to get his face and name in the media, without a negative stigma attached to it. I mean, sure, some people might think of it as silly and childish (which it, in every way, is) but that is different from being arrested for drug possession, or being caught up in a murder investigation, or something of that serious nature.
Sure, he probably loves himself, but I also think that part of it is simply upping his Q rating (not that he does it because of the Q rating, per se, just that he wants everyone to know who he is). And, honestly, he has been wildly successful in that.

I just hope he doesn't get traded to a team where they've retired that number

I like guys like this in sports
By all accounts he isn’t running into trouble off the field. He’s a colorful personality – perhaps a bit of a headache if he’s on your team, but a colorful personality that livens up an otherwise dull sport.

It's good to have some guys to laugh at
But can one even begin to take him seriously as an adult? I mean, if left to their own devices, 10-year-olds would change their names to something like this. It’s not evil. It’s not awful. He’s no Milton Bradley. But he’s turned himself into a joke (even moreso than he used to be).
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Of course he's a joke
A very, very rich joke.
Look, he’s an entertainer. He’s not running for political office. He’s supposed to be a joke.

He's supposed to be a joke?
He’s chosen to be a joke. He could have taken the “I’m a great athlete to be loved and admired” route. Instead he chose the clown route. Seems like an odd choice which was the product of immaturity and, I guess, oddness.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Who gets more endorsements
Chad Johnson or the quiet but equally as talented Marvin Harrison?

I'm not saying it isn't going to make him some money
If you’re saying he’s completely given his image over to marketing and he’s turned his back on any sort of integrity, self respect or maturity, then I agree. He might as well have made a deal with Cheetos and changed his name to Chester Cheetah ©.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
